Reorchestrated music: yay or nay?

The remake trend gives us the opportunity to replay our favorite games and listen to music that became classics today.
Some do it well, others do it very badly.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening does it perfectly

I have more mixed feelings about FF7R

What's your opinion?

It's weird but there something about the compression that makes me appreciate what they were able to convey with limited audio channels and banks.

Eh, Tal Tal Mountain is exactly the one track I'd do with a completely different vibe. Rock-ish, even.

I'm generally not a fan of overdone arrangements of chiptune music. VG music from that era had a very distinct sound, and going overboard with orchestral music can only change the overall vibe. It's a case-by-case situation. I loved what they did with FF7, with the exception of the battle theme.

Mixed on Hamauzu's work?? What's your problem with this arrangement exactly?

I already gave an example, but I can add one more:
The addition of the vocals is an absolute horror on this track. Now I don't know who is more to blame between him Nobuo Uematsu and Mitsuto Suzuki

The idea is not to say that the older versions are inevitably inferior. I admit that some tracks with the characteristic beeps are impossible (or almost impossible) to rearrange.

I didn't expect such unanimity...
