Edit: Seems translator lied:
During an interview on Friday, Chrono Trigger writer Yuji Horii appeared to confirm the existence of a remake for the 1995 RPG. According to Reddit user df_tarocco_1, who was in attendance during the event, Horii "let this information slip" during the interview. Afterward, the host appeared to whisper something to Horii and covered his mouth.
According to another user who was in attendance, Horii "said something along the line of what you said and the interviewer said 'Wait, if that's true, this is big'. The translator asked for a confirmation to Horii who presumably understood that he shouldn't have said that and the translator commented: 'You have heard nothing.'"
First released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, the game also saw ports to the original PlayStation in 1999 along with releases on PC, Nintendo DS, and even mobile. The game kickstarted the Chrono series, which has seen one main sequel in Chrono Cross.

"I understand there is also a remake in development".
