Someone made this is UE5 a while ago.
That is truly the worst fan project I've ever witnessed. It's a lesson in what not to do.

The only remake that would make my life complete.![]()
Where.....is.....Xeno......gears
Don't trust them at all to make a competent Chrono Trigger remake at this point. Should be a no brainer, but they don't seem to believe in turn based combat anymore and their art direction is seriously lacking these days even with their 2D-HD games.
I'd be more than happy with a Chrono Trigger game that looked like DQ8.
A big reason why my backlog is so big is because I wait for the best time to play games and the best version of games.
I bought Persona 4 on sale (twice). First on PC, but then the PS4 port came out, and I preferred to play it there (there was no cross progression). Because of the lack of cross progression and how muddy the beginning of the game is, I really struggled to play it and by the time I wanted to give it a shot Persona 3 reload was announced and I realized they would probably do Persona 4 next, so I stopped playing it altogether and am just waiting for the remake.
Also waiting for Resident Evil 1 remake before I play RE2-4, even though I already own RE2 and RE3.
I'm a bloom slut so I don't mind HD-2D leaning into it, but the rest of your post I completely agree with. I'd rather a CT remake project be built like DQ8 over the HD-2D approach. DQ8 is aging like wine and I'd love to see it remastered in higher resolution with the bonus things from the 3Ds version. Too many incredible games with differing styles genres for me to pick an all time favorite but if I had to pick an all-time favorite game, it just might be DQ8.This is the right answer.

DQ8 still looks fantastic at high resolutions, with no additional tweaks from PS2. Even with lower resolution textures, the artwork carries it a long, long way. I think this would be a perfect style for a CT remake. It's charming, it's crazy high fidelity compared to the original, but not so much that we get into like gross real life anime guy territory. CT has some pretty out there character designs that just would NOT work with the fidelity of say, FF7R.
It'll be a HD-2D. They saw the low investment high return on dragon quest, probably the low cost of things like triangle strategy or octopath games, and figured this is a no brainer at this point.0 trust in modern Square. They'll probably fuck it up somehow.
HD2D

It's the perfect way to do this too. Full 3D for an anime inspired character art is a recipe for disaster.
It would turn down a lot of sales.
It will be a 3D Remake with graphics like DQ11 to attract new fans, seems the most logical.
The best choice for this game, for sure!Probably a HD-2D.
I saw some amazing fan made FF8 remake stuff on YouTube, and even though 8 may be my least favorite FF, it made me want it more than even a 9 remake/remaster which is one of my favorite FFs.Meh i think this game aged really well, there's really no need for that, plenty of games are in more urgent need of a remake than this.
Some forgotten games from the 90s could use a remake but i know they are struggling and they want to gain some cash.
Yeah I was hoping to see more remakes from less known games after what they did with Live A Live. Stuff like Treasure Hunter G, Tresure of the Rudras or even Secret of Evermore.Meh i think this game aged really well, there's really no need for that, plenty of games are in more urgent need of a remake than this.

But yeah I guess they need quick bucks so they went with the nostalgia bait.
as long as it's not turn based combat of any kind i'll try it
If you want additional content, make sure you play the DS version. It was really well done. Doesn't have the olde english for frog though, which was a regional difference I liked. I didn't play Chrono Trigger until I was 20, well past the age where you remember old titles and get feels for them, but that game still gives me nostalgia anywayI literally am going through my first ever playthrough of Chrono trigger and can finally understand how people mentioned this is the best JRPG ever. It's such a well built package, complete end to end
