Where.....is.....Xeno......gears
The only remake that would make my life complete. 😘

Don't trust them at all to make a competent Chrono Trigger remake at this point. Should be a no brainer, but they don't seem to believe in turn based combat anymore and their art direction is seriously lacking these days even with their 2D-HD games.

I'd be more than happy with a Chrono Trigger game that looked like DQ8.

A big reason why my backlog is so big is because I wait for the best time to play games and the best version of games.

I bought Persona 4 on sale (twice). First on PC, but then the PS4 port came out, and I preferred to play it there (there was no cross progression). Because of the lack of cross progression and how muddy the beginning of the game is, I really struggled to play it and by the time I wanted to give it a shot Persona 3 reload was announced and I realized they would probably do Persona 4 next, so I stopped playing it altogether and am just waiting for the remake.

Also waiting for Resident Evil 1 remake before I play RE2-4, even though I already own RE2 and RE3.

This is the right answer.

DQ8 still looks fantastic at high resolutions, with no additional tweaks from PS2. Even with lower resolution textures, the artwork carries it a long, long way. I think this would be a perfect style for a CT remake. It's charming, it's crazy high fidelity compared to the original, but not so much that we get into like gross real life anime guy territory. CT has some pretty out there character designs that just would NOT work with the fidelity of say, FF7R.
I'm a bloom slut so I don't mind HD-2D leaning into it, but the rest of your post I completely agree with. I'd rather a CT remake project be built like DQ8 over the HD-2D approach. DQ8 is aging like wine and I'd love to see it remastered in higher resolution with the bonus things from the 3Ds version. Too many incredible games with differing styles genres for me to pick an all time favorite but if I had to pick an all-time favorite game, it just might be DQ8.

0 trust in modern Square. They'll probably fuck it up somehow.
It'll be a HD-2D. They saw the low investment high return on dragon quest, probably the low cost of things like triangle strategy or octopath games, and figured this is a no brainer at this point.

It's the perfect way to do this too. Full 3D for an anime inspired character art is a recipe for disaster.

It would turn down a lot of sales.

It will be a 3D Remake with graphics like DQ11 to attract new fans, seems the most logical.

Chrono Trigger is one of the few games Square could remake into an incredible AAA game.

It has Toriyama designs (meaning you can make it like DQ11 if you want) and an iconic storyline that's entirely contained in one installment.

Naturally what will happen is they'll make it into a 3-part action rpg with hyper-realistic graphics.

Didn't the game just hit 1 million life time sales like a few weeks ago?

No way they put out that kind of money to do a full blown DQ11 remake.

It'll be 2.5D if it ever happens because square doesn't believe in the franchise and doesn't want to spend money on something that had donkey sales.

I could go for either. HD-2D is the safer choice and probably cheaper, but they could reuse the Dragon Quest XI engine (or use the upcoming DQXII engine). It could be amazing, but as a lot of people have said, they could totally botch it.

Either way, I just hope they give the music the treatment it deserves. The updated tracks for the Pixel remasters were amazing, and Chrono Trigger deserves at least that quality.

Meh i think this game aged really well, there's really no need for that, plenty of games are in more urgent need of a remake than this.
Some forgotten games from the 90s could use a remake but i know they are struggling and they want to gain some cash.

I saw some amazing fan made FF8 remake stuff on YouTube, and even though 8 may be my least favorite FF, it made me want it more than even a 9 remake/remaster which is one of my favorite FFs.

I'll try to find the video later.

My point is if they want big bucks? Chrono in any format is not it, and neither is obscure games from the past like you mention.

FF8, X, 6. Those can make money.

Yeah I was hoping to see more remakes from less known games after what they did with Live A Live. Stuff like Treasure Hunter G, Tresure of the Rudras or even Secret of Evermore.

But yeah I guess they need quick bucks so they went with the nostalgia bait.

I don't think HD-2D would suit Chrono. Full 3D but with the same top-down camera would be better (edit - like the Super Mario RPG remake). Toriyama's art looks great in 3D, even from the 360 days.

They need to really be careful with this game. Might be the best game of all time.

I'd love to see Chrono Blade finally happen.

IMO, the two games they really need to remaster (or even just re-release) is FFT and Xenogears. The latter seems pretty unlikely.

The second-best video game I've ever played.

They should have made it before Akira Toriyama's success and made a separate sequel.

Too bad. For now players can choose the next best option which is to buy and play the game now on STEAM (game is now 50% off)

I literally am going through my first ever playthrough of Chrono trigger and can finally understand how people mentioned this is the best JRPG ever. It's such a well built package, complete end to end

Waste, I'm not a giant fan of this one. I know that's blasphemy but I never understood this one or chrono cross. I tried.

If you want additional content, make sure you play the DS version. It was really well done. Doesn't have the olde english for frog though, which was a regional difference I liked. I didn't play Chrono Trigger until I was 20, well past the age where you remember old titles and get feels for them, but that game still gives me nostalgia anyway

Never played it but heard it was good from my years at gamefaqs from a good amount of poster so I would like to give this a try if they do a remake.
