Resident Evil 0 f****** sucks (oh, LTTP)

I started playing it two nights ago.

And I think it's absolutely fuckin boring. To say that I'm more interested reading the story-files than playing the actual game should say something.

And no, it's not because Resident Evil 4 "changed me" or some shit. That game was cool n' all, but I also just recently played Resident Evil Remake a week ago. Enjoyed it, finished it, and came away impressed through and through. So I know it's not the 'classic' RE gameplay that's bothering me, rather the specific design choices made for RE0.

So then I popped in RE0. And, came away with one thought, that they should rename the game "Item Management 101"

WTF? I'm not playing the game to solve puzzles (if you can call em' that) nor is shooting the zombies all that fun, so you would think the pacing and sense of progression would carry through...no, not that either. Because the only two lasting impressions I have playing RE0, is:

A) Door Loading Screen
B) Constantly picking up/leaving/swapping items/backtracking 24/7.

Resident Evil remake had the same fetch/backtrek to use items thing going on. But that game, through and through was enjoyable because it never required you to use item boxes that much. The simple fact that there are probably only two somewhat (dangerously exessible) boxes seemingly dissuades you from going and back and froth swapping items left and right.

Anyway, for RE0 I just finished the train segment, and if I'm getting bogged down with all this item management crap on a pretty linear scenario, I'd figure the game would be a pure chore when the inevitable "mansion" comes around.

Anyone else feel RE0 was probably -THE- worst main RE game?

And if I'd had to rate them:

1) Resident Evil 2
2) Resident Evil 4
3) Resident Evil 3
4) Resident Evil 1
5) Resident Evil CV
6) Resident Evil 0

I never finished CV and 0, I got so annoyed with them. Part 3 I actually liked quite a bit, given, I do like my action...maybe that's why. Nemesis kicked all kinds of ass too.

Replace Resident Evil 0 with Outbreak File #2 and I've got the exact same complaints. I kinda just deal with it though. :P

I hated Zero for another reason

the devs gave up...they just stopped caring and it shows

RE4 was the spark that reinvigorated them...sad too since REmake kicked so much ass...I think the market has room for both RE4-style REs and classic ones...but whatever

edit: can't say RE3 is the worst or near that either as it's the only RE (before RE4 and after RE1 during the time of its release) that has kept me tense throughout the game thanks to its Nemesis gameplay aspects

I agree with that 100%.

The 'classic' RE gameplay style has elements to it RE4 failed to achieve. Given, most would agree the things it gains outweighs the things it loses for RE4's case, but IMO I do hope RE5 takes some elements back to the roots, namely 'fear in atmosphere'

Resident Evil 4 had absolutely no fear, and no tension. Any moment tension rises, press start, go to menu, bust out your trusty shotgun, use it, press menu, go back to handgun, and continue onward. Rinse and repeat when needed. I say that because the few moments when I said "oh shit" in Re4, was when I forced myself to only use the handgun against Chainsaw dude. Some scary shit, you don't know what/how many shots it'll take before you stun him and prevent him from cutting your head off, that sense of uncertainty was awesome. But hey, why worry when you got the shotty that'll knock him back 50 feet that consequently reduces him to the level of a typical enemy. Mikami you, tsk tsk tsk.

While RE4 is right there next to MGS3 as my game of the last gen, I would have to partly agree. Now, I did feel the first... oh, 2 or 3 hours pretty much nailed the feeling I had when I first played RE1 back in the day though. And I felt RE4 was chock full of "tense" moments; seemingly every new area you'd get to had something to throw at you, and usually in crazy numbers and odds. But yeah, something about the whole thing just didn't click for me - of course, I mean that in a "Resident Evil frame of mind."

While RE has never really been considered "scary," I have enjoyed the horrific and brutal atmosphere of the past games, especially in RE2. I didn't feel RE4 had this. I don't know, it's hard to put into words. Sorry if all the above sounded completely retarded.

The game would have been more enjoyable with trunks to store your shit. The person who had the idea to remove them was an idiot.

If you're bitching about the train part then you might as well give up. There is a shitload of items that pop up during the mansion. Sometimes you will have to store shit in like 2-3 rooms because there is a cap on the amount of stuff you can have in one room. :lol Imagine moving that amount of shit around the mansion once you're done with a particular section. Good luck. :lol I still enjoyed the game both becuase I love RE and because it's still pretty good, but it's not as good as the others.

No need for luck, after reading that I'm not going to even bother.

lolz my turn.

4 = C:V > 2 > 3 > 1 > 0

4 and C:V are fucking awesome. C:V is so good.

I've attempted to play this game twice. Both times I quit after beating the train part for the same reason above (dropping shit in rooms). The back tracking was just too much for me

Damn you haters, Zero rocked.

This is one game that deserves all the hate it gets. It's on the same level of crap as Devil May Cry 2.

Who the fuck was the director of this game? Holy hell -- did the guy NOT notice that mechanic was totally retarded during any point of the 2 year development cycle?

Zero is nowhere near BAD. People tend to confuse mediocre with "crap". Both are probably 6.5/7.0 games. I still managed to play through DMC2 like 4 times and have some fun doing it.

Didn't say it was bad. I said it's on the same crap level as DMC2. Painfully average games that are quite boring in comparison to other games in their series. RE0 is the only game in the series I just couldn't get into; it took me so many tries just to play long enough to get off the train. Huge let down after Resident Evil GC.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I kept getting like halfway through RE0 and just like.. stopped. I wanted to keep going but I didn't.

Maybe you should be calling it crap, too, then. :)

2
0
Remake
4
CV

Never played 3, thought CV was shit, 4 was good but overrated. For whatever reason, I just loved two and played through it multiple times. 0 and Remake were good, but I actually liked 0's item management compared to Remakes. Two characters meant you could hold twice the amount of items, and you could put them anywhere on the ground you liked. Remake should have ditched the item box which IMO, has always sucked, and really doesn't make any sense either.

I'm fairly sure I hate all the RE games except 4.

I only played REmake and RE0 besides it... but they bored me to death.

Yes, RE0 is easily the worst game in the series. It's got two things going for it: Pretty graphics and the (enemy type)
leech zombies
. The rest is shit. RE0 could've been better if they had kept the item boxes in addition to the item dropping. To fuck things up further, the weapons took up more space in your inventory (which you also had less of).

Just a retarded decision... I mean, it's not challenging, only annoying.

As for how they all compare to each other...

1. RE2
2. RE
3. RE3
4. RE4
5. RECV
6. RE0

I loved RE0. ^^d I never really had problems with item management either....... I just kinda left all my medical items in an easilly accessible area with some ammo and kinda got on with it..... Didn't really have to go back there too much anyway.. :-/

Once you've played through it once, it's a lot better the second time around. It certainly feels they ran out of steam on the game, I agree. They should have left Rebecca on the N64, and used the REmake skills remaking Res 2, that one was amazing. Think it'll be on the Rev virtual console?

RE0 is horrible gameplay wise, and for a game that is suppose to be scary it's even less scary than RE4. Gone is the crimson heads, and the game is basicly full of giant bugs. Hardly anything scary about it. On top of that, type c control mode from REmake is gone, plus that the character switching system is very tedious.

I really dont understand the RE0 hatred. I own both REmake and RE0 and I thought Zero was only marginally inferior to REmake.

This is how I rank them.

1) Resident Evil Remake
2) Resident Evil 4
3) Resident Evil 2
4) Resident Evil 0
5) Resident Evil CV
6) Resident Evil 3

I think alot of the RE0 hate is because it is the worst in the series. Even if you liked it, you gotta admit it was the low point. It's like they where trying really hard to renew the formula... but failed.

As a result of playing RE0, I've become a master of this game.

I dotn remember having to navigate such close quarters in previous REs. All the while trying to avoid enemies and conserve ammo.

That is basically how I rank them;

RE=RE4>>RE2>>>>>>>>>>RE0=Code Veronica>>>RE3

We actually had this thread last week even if it started as a appreciation of how RE0 looked, it soon turned into a hate thread :lol RE0 just felt really tired, the locales and enemies were unimaginative, the story went all over the place and never answered questions that were the supposed reason for the games inception, the co-op was by and large pointless and the item dropping was a infuriating gimmick.
