Resident Evil 4 alternate cover art?

I recall reading a post sometime in the last month or two stating that EGM was going to include an alternate (replacement?) box art insert for the USA Resident Evil 4 with an upcoming magazine. I ran several searches but turned up no information about this. Has this been issued, or will it be in the future? Or is this just a rumor/wishful thinking?

That box art with the silhouette of the chap holding the chainsaw in the air would be very cool.
 
It's true... And it's sized just slightly too small width-wise; you can still see the edges of the original cover underneath.
 
Can we get a pic of it? Does it have the same RE4 info stuff on the back cover?

I saw the issue at the store but I didnt see anything that indicated a RE4 cover
 
I remember japanese magazines doing this and some posters (me included) speculated how fuckin sweet it would be if American mags started, too. But that's about it.

Doh! Really? We tested it and everything, looked fine here.

It's included with the March issue (godfather). Its only big enough to cover the front and side of the box, the back is left uncovered. (it is the chainsaw guy art, btw). Also included are ones for MGS3 (the jpn box version), metroid prime 2 (dark samus), and halo 2 (arbiter).

PS -- If people like this, let us know! Feedback is always appreciated.
 
Are they precut inserts or do I have to slice along a dotted line? Because, really, the RE4 and MGS3 covers would be worth it...

And yes, Mark, please do more of these...just include them with my subscription copy, please :(

Yes. But remember, like the Mega64 on the DVDs, that subcribers don't like feeling ripped off, either.
I think it DOES match up, but when you overlap it with the existing one, I bet it's a fraction too thick just because it's on top of it.
 
More covers would be cool, and it'd be great if it came with subscriptions too. But I imagine making these covers incur some costs, so I can see why they're only included with news stand copies

If EGM does decide to do more covers, the JPN cover for ICO is a must
 
It would be nice if you included the full sleeve instead of just the front cover. It looks kinda sloppy when you have to stick it on top of your current sleeve, and it's kinda tight too. There's no need to change the back cover, really; you can just include the original back with an updated front.

Otherwise GREAT IDEA though!! ;)
 
Hey, that's pretty cool. So this is in the current issue on newsstands? I'll have to go and pick it up. And yes, EGM-man, this kind of thing is tres cool. If only this was done for that Shenmue 2 Xbox cover art. Lemme think - bad recent art....I haven't really kept on on game releases as of late. But continue to do this. You got a sale from me solely because of it.
 
Cool idea, now what some industrious GAFer needs to do is take EGM's update, merge it with the existing back US cover and provide it in one properly sized, easily printed zipped bitmap. Are you a BAD enough dude to, etc etc...

Oh, and remember when PSM used to pack-in replacement PS1 lid and memory card stickers? Gaming rags need more shit like this - it's neat!
 
hmmm... I got this issue looked at every freaking page and insert after reading it was included and came up with NOTHING> boo to EGM.

Yeah, I didn't get it either. Just the usual semi-crushed EGM crammed into my mailbox by the temperamental life-hating postal hoe.

What a kick in the nuts to subscribers. Remind me not to renew after this.

Well thank you EGM for screwing over we loyal subscribers. Or guys that got a free online subscription and shouldn't really be bitching. You know, either of those...
 
If nothing else that was the one nice thing about Nintendo Power I remember-- they actually rewarded subscribers instead of kicking them in the scrotum with a golf cleat.

I think I still have the incredibly old Dragon Warrior I NES cart they sent me in conjunction with some subscription special several, several years ago. By now, I'm guessing the backup battery is dead, but oh the memories live on!
 
Subscribers get the magazine at a substantially reduced price vs. what you pay at newstand--a price that doesn't cover the cost of inserts.
 
Went ahead and grabbed an issue tonight. First copy of EGM I've bought off a newsstand in almost a decade. Hard to believe I've been a subscriber that long.

Didn't bother with the Halo 2 (I have the tin) or Metroid Prime 2 (foil > *) covers, but the RE4 and MGS3 inserts are top notch. Nice work guys.

RE4 cover is HAWT. Is there a red tint to it, or is that something else?
 
I'll pick this up and I already subscribe to EGM. The red RE4 cover is one of the top ten of all time, IMO.
 
Be forewarned, you'll want a razor and a straight-edge as they're all printed on the back of the poster. The paper stock is nice, your standard EGM poster, but doesn't feel or look super cheap.

Yea, that's a red tint, but the flash of the camera may cause it to seem a little exaggerated.

As long as they keep supplying awesome alternate covers, I'll keep buying EGM off the newsstand.

Oh snap, I'm so on this! This is how you sell magazines EGM! :D

and on previous note, I was the one the started the topic about the alternate covers with the narutimet hero 2 vjump covers.

Where was someone when we needed alternate covers for Viewtiful Joe, Pikmin 2, SSBM, MP, etc etc?

I was told that, since the other side of the poster was an ad, both subs and newsstand would get this? No?

(btw, a big reason we didn't do the back was to fit 4 game covers on instead of 2:)

edit: also, the RE4 cover was the one we were sent as the euro art....must have changed. Collector's edition!!! :D

Alright, maybe it's just the booze talkin, but subscribers email your address to mark_macdonald@ziffdavis.com with subject: poster and I'll see what I can do about sending you one. I can't guarantee anything but I will try my damndest--if I can't do it I'll at least email you back saying so.
 
There's a way to get a special insert made that's just about the size of the game sleeve, folded exactly where you need it to, with just enough space to cut it out of the mag using scissors. You guys should look into these. Full sleeves = rock!
 
that's the Pal cover art.

I have the US version, the US always get's the lesser artwork for some reason. REmake Pal version had an excellent cover compared to the US version.

hmm, i might have to go nick me one of those out of a display box at GAME or something. im sure they wouldn't miss it :D
