Retro Studios - What do you think they do next?

I am quite interested in what Retro is doing next. It's probable that they are planning (or even started) their next game, and I doubt it's for Gamecube. Could it be Metroid Prime 3 for Revolution launch? I don't mind a new type of game from them, but MP3 for Rev would do too.

I dunno, but if it's Metroid, please axe all collecting such as the Dark Keys,I still haven't beat MP2 because of that.

I sure hope its something else for revolution. MP2E felt too samey and I don't think sales were that great so the title might take a hiatus. MP3 will obviously benefit from the extra poly pushing + graphical upgrades. IMO it needs it

I hope it something new and not a FPS :)

A Metroid Prime launch game would be pretty crucial to the early impressions of the system. I hope they're developing that, along with something else.

A next-gen Metroid game would look beautiful. I think the franchise still has a lot to offer.

Metroid Prime 3 that is less like 2 and more like 1.

Agreed. 2 wasn't as good as 1 except for a few bosses and Sanctuary fortress.

They have the talent to make a kick ass FPS, so I hope thats what they're doing.

Agreed. Nintendo needs their own "goldeneye" again, and Retro are the team to bring it. Give Xbox2 a run for its money in terms of console FPSes ;)

I think a mission based Metroid Prime title would kick ass and allow for such a large variety of environments.

MISSION 1
Space Pirates have invaded a desolate, futuristic city on planet 'X'. Go investigate and exterminate Pirate presence.

Hopefully not another Metroid game. It really sucks when a group of talented developers are forced to make the same damn game over and over after they make a hit title. Let them make something different Nintendo!

Raven Blade! Come on, Retro!

Fixed! (Sorry, just wanted to do this once :) )

You haven't thought of the possibilty that they enjoy working with the metroid franchise? Because that's what they said in their last interview.

NP: What's it like working at retro? What's a typical day?

Karl: It's a great place to work. From the very start when we got the Metroid license, we were all immensely excited to work on a Metroid title. We're happy with what we've done to it and what we plan to do to it.

Mike: It's very daunting. The Metroid license is a very big deal, and living up to the previous games and making sure that we carry forth the spirit in a way that was perceived as risky was an extremely difficult but very rewarding project to tackle. But, you know, we get here around 5:30 in the morning and make coffee and start working and usually we're here late at night making sure every i is dotted and t is crossed.

yes. Samus is a bounty hunter. Make her go hunt monsters for once and then at some point the story congregates and becomes a mission to save the world or something. Maybe even :O maybe her upgrades purchasble ala RE4. How many times can we play recover the powerup without thinking.... "urrrhhh" The 3D metroids actually made it very transparent that they had to find reasons to strip Samus of her powers.

She should be space hopping instead of getting locked down on planets + spaceships. After so many Metroid titles, the franchise needs a bit of a change.

If it is Metroid Prime 3 then i want them to return to the original formula. MP 2: Echoes felt like it was all in "one temple". That's not what i want.

What i want is the very same thing what they did with Metroid Prime. Example like: Chozo Ruins, Phendrana Drifts, Tallon Overworld. You're in a completely different atmosphere. It felt like you traveling to different places.

Would you want to continue making the same game over and over? I pity the guys the work at Neversoft.

I'd rather them making something that isn't a FPS. We have alot of those coming out anyways.

true, but I would say their next system will need an exclusive FPS or two to stay competitive (outside Japan). Sony and MS will have them..

Kinda weird that alot of ppl want them to release Raven Blade when some people on the Retro dev team themselves have said that the project wasn't going to well.

Well they have made 2 games. That's not a lot in this industri. There are many developers that have done 3-4 games in a row of the same franchise this generation. Why don't you bitch at R* for their GTA games?

I would like to see a Metroid Prime triology before they stop working with it.

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes: 482,812

LTD at the end of January for Echoes. Not that bad I guess but it could have been better considering the largeness of the franchise and also the 1st game's numbers.

I sure hope they leave Metroid alone for a bit.

If they could come up with a great new FPS franchise for the Revolution's launch, it would be huge for Nintendo and could maybe even be the defining title for the system's launch.

But the Metroid franchise IMO is holding them back. You can't really do a full blown multiplayer mode and the series is too slow paced to be an all-out FPS, which tend to be bigger crowd pleasers.

I know it's not a lot. But if they are working on Metroid Prime 3, then it is getting excessive. Sequels from any developer should not come out so soon. Doing shit like that dilutes the franchise and I don't want that to happen to Metroid.

It might not be Metroid this time, but I think a third game for Rev launch is pretty possible at this point. Nintendo will probably annouce their next game at E3.

Well the other problem is unless Geist turns out great, Nintendo really has no other great FPS developer, and this is still an important genre. You look at what GoldenEye did for the N64 and what Halo did for the XBox.

What I'd like to see is Retro make an all-out original FPS franchise which uses the Revolution's new type of control interface in a good way.

Yeah, I dont want another FPS though. They have talent, but they must be sick of making FPS games by now.

They're sick of Metroid by now i presume. Its a tired franchise that should have stayed dead. Retro have much potential but Nintendo are wasting them.

yeah it's all Nintendo's fault. What else is new. It's too bad RS got the chance to establish themselves with the Metroid franchise. <insert Rolleyes>

Retro needs to expand.

Metroid team doing FPS games. Really, no need to yank them from doing what they are good at
Team 2 - ETC

Thing is though, if you can come up with a great FPS, especailly early on in the console's life cycle, it can be HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE for your platform.

I mean Nintendo needs as much help as they can get with the 16-35 year-old demographic as is. If Retro could give them a million seller FPS franchise, it could really give the Revolution at least a fighting chance in North America and Europe beyond the Nintendo fans.

Raven Blade or something along those lines would be cool ... but a FPS should come first.

But really this shouldn't even be a debate, Retro should be expanded back to at least 2 or 3 teams.

Or they could come up with a game that has the potential to sell in NA, Europe and Japan.

Meh, I think when you start to aim for that you get yourself in trouble (this is one of Nintendo's problems actually). Trying to please everyone with one formula, it just doesn't work.

For starters its going to be an uphill climb for Retro just to get a solid userbase for a game sold to the "older" demographic on a Nintendo console (see Resident Evil 4).

wow that's a weak reply. I expected better from you ;)

Nintendo games like smash bros, zelda and mario caters well to all 3 regions. (NA, Europe and Japan) I really don't see your compliant.

I wouldn't mind them doing a new Metroid game, but resurecting Raven Blade wouldn't be that bad of an idea either as I thought this game really had a lot of potential at first. But since the Metroid Prime franchise is quite popular then maybe Nintendo will want Retro to develop a game based on a existing franchise so that people recognize it as consumers are sometimes afraid of new things, especially at a console launch (or at least I think seeing as 1st parties always try to have the same franchises at the laucnh of their new consoles). But whatever they do I hope it's gonna be available at Revolution's launch.

Definitely Raven Blade...I want to see Retro's take on the Adventure genre!
Raven Blade was going to be an RPG of some sort...

But really, I don't understand anyone that wants Raven Blade. All you saw were some creature designs, and by all reports the gameplay was an absolutely broken mess, hence the project being shelved. When I think about games I want, I'm focused on the gameplay, not some lifeless character models.

Anyway, I'm very, very sick of Metroid, so I'd like to see Retro dabble in something new. I couldn't even muster up interest in Echoes, but after Fusion, Prime and the weak Zero Mission, I'm done for a few years. This generation has burned me out on several Nintendo franchises...

What I think you have to do creatively is just make the best game you can, but when you start to get into stuff like "lets make a game for all three regions and for every age group!"
it can back fire.

The other interesting thing with Revolution is going to be whether or not the system can get any semblance of support from the 16-35 year old crowd who aren't Nintendo loyalists.

They've lost pretty much every "older skewing" franchise they've had the past five years ... no more Perfect Dark, Conker, Eternal Darkness, Star Wars, or Resident Evil (probably as good as gone).

Its going to be interesting to see how/if they fill this gap, and I don't think you can do it with a "one size fits all!" mentality. You gotta get specific. If the game takes off and becomes a huge hit in all three territories that's great, but that's after the fact.

With the next-generation, I think you're going to find out reaaaaaally quickly where each of the three console makers stands. The market is going to be really competetive.

If I remember correctly the project went downhill because one of the main guys responsible for it decided to leave but it isn't out of the question that Retro could rework it and put the game back on track. The videos we have seen (FMV) looked great and I think it got a lot of people interested.
