Reviewers, what game did you score the lowest?

It doesn't matters what medium you used. ;)

I saw that Sneakers (first party game for the Xbox) would be a Toys 'R Us exclusive. It was known as Have a Mice Day! when it launched (and then bombed) in Japan, and it got a score in the low twenties in Famitsu Weekly if I recall correctly. What I did not knew, is that it was exclusive to the US, in Canada the game was sold in stores and available for rent. So I went to my video store to rent some games, and I saw it! I don't know why, instead of picking, well, any other game on the store, I decided that since Microsoft would never send that game to the press, I'd make a review and be the first one to review it.

I started playing. Well, it had a nice opening FMV, with some rat in fur-shading. The rest, well, I didn't quite knew if I should laugh or cry. :lol Why did these stupid mice had to hunt rats to get a cake for their party? Why was the game on rails made in multiple squares and you could only to from one angle to another? That was the worst. control system. ever. Then I had to get a peek to look for rats, I figured out something interesting would happen. Wow, the rat gets scared, and then I discover you have to scare them all and that's the goal of the game! I ROTFLMAO! :lol

There were a few sporadical battles were you basically couldn't do jack. There were four stages that ended in a hurry and that only lasted a couple hours because of the clunky controls. And the story made no sense whatsover, so in the end I gave the game 12%. I tought out to myself since I was the first: big sites are gonna review the game, what if I am awfully wrong? I was somewhat anxious at some point, and then I saw IGN giving an almost exactly similar score. :lol

Scorpion King... I still have trouble sleeping at night

I'm pretty sure I've given several games flat 0's from time to time. The hate mail from publishers would be like candy to me.

"We're not sending you any more games!" they would say, and I would laugh and be happy with a job well done.

I RATED TY THE TASMANIAN TIGER 2 A 5.0 in SUCK FACTOR.

But I gave it a 6.8 in FUN FACTOR.

I dogged plenty of games back in the PS1/SS/N64 days, but the only one in recent memory that I can actually remember really trashing was Unlimited Saga. Such garbage.

only because your key skill wasn't high enough

Lowest I ever reviewed a game was Spirit of Speed for Dreamcast. I gave it I think 9%

It was utter shit. I still have the review copy too. :lol

XGRA and some GCN slot car racing title. They both got 2/5. Luckily I've never reviewed COMPLETE shit...

Archangel and Tsunami 2261 for the PC.

Your Archangel review was one of my favorite reviews... it was like talking to you about a game over lunch! funny stuff

When you rated games that bad though, they should have known that they were shipping shit out of the doors though. I'm sorry, I couldn't have made Superman 64 and with a straight face, gone on about Krytonite Fog. My dignity wouldn't let me do it.

I had a PR guy -- a FUCKING PR GUY! -- threaten to beat the shit out of me. I forwarded it to my editor-in-chief at the magazine and a good laugh was had by all.

Yeah, I've been threatened by PR people, it's fun :) Threatened twice with libel and once with they'll somehow magically make me lose my job.

And I'll say it to this day: Any game critic who doesn't get in the publisher's bad books at some point simply isn't doing their job right.

Demi: Not sure how your suck scale works. Is 10 a "completely sucks" or a "does not suck at all"? :)

DON'T TELL ME HOW I SHOULD REVIEW MY GAMES

I gave Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge a 2 out of 10 in GMR. I still say its the worst Mega Man game ever, and can't believe some folks gave it a decent score.

Quite recent for me. I wanted to give Ping Pals a 0, but the 1UP database wouldn't allow it. I suppose if we're asking what *game* I scored the lowest, it'd either be Legend of Dragoon or Unlimited Saga.

Minority Report (multi) and some crappy GBA games

He!, fortunately, I can´t "loose" my job as technically I am not in any place (joys of freelancing, it comes with the lack of money to buy food and pay bills). But I have some stories like that. I´m agree with you, it´s fun ;).

I think I gave Star Wars: Flight of the Falcon a 2 or something in Pocket Games.

Was that the one for the GBA that Tommy T. gave a 9.5 or something close to that for?

I wish I could get hate mail. :(
Hate mail rocks.

My lowest ranked game would have to be Ping Pals, but in truth, Fear Factor was much much worse. So bad, in fact, that my pity for the development team invariably affected the score, bumping it from an F to a D-.

I trashed Disney Princess and Hot Wheels: Velocity X, both for the GBA. I'm not sure what I gave them as my original scores aren't available to me any longer, but they were both very painful to review.

I never got much hate mail, but I did once get an email from a game's designer thanking and praising me for writing a level-headed and well justified negative review of his game. That was definitely my favorite email in relation to that kind of work.

PFt, Fight Club inspired so much hatred, it bumped the game from a C to an F. :-|

Looking at the raw numbers, Tood McFarlane's Evil Prophecy (or whatever that shite-tube of a game was called) was my lowest. However, my bosses threw down a unified review curve, so technically Fight Club is the most worthless game I've touched since I began reviewing games.

I haven't given any Atari games extremely low scores, but I'm sure I don't get any love from their PR people...

I don't think I've ever given a 1/10. For that, the game pretty much must be non-working. I guess games like Revolution X, Vs and Captain Planet would deserve it, but I never reviewed those.

Lowest scores are 2/10 for Azurik, Circus Maximus, Robot Wars (the BBC TV show game),and recently Ghostmaster: The Gravenville Chronicles.

You guys should be saying which magazine/website you were reviewing the game for.

I wish I had a job reviewing video games, that must be the life.
