REZ (PSP): Rumor Speaks:

Heh, gotta love the mega-premature hate about this; a port to one of the most beloved games of this gen. Hey, this reminds me of the Valkyrie Profile port!

Transparent much!
The problem is, Rez is my favourite game of all time, but the PSP just can't handle it. They'd have to cut it down, without Mizuguchi involved, and it could be disastrous. But that's an aside - I still don't believe this is happening ;)

PSP could easily handle Rez. It's not a technically taxing title at all. It's like 90% wireframe and single colour flat shaded polys.

That's not a criticism either, it's my no. 1 game of all time. Art > Artifice.

I don't think you could be more wrong. How could PSP not handle it?

It depends how technically proficient a game developer is then: wire-frame and flat-shaded polygons are two things PlayStation 2's GS and VU's EXCEL at and can flex all of their muscle without needing tons of months of optimization time (2.4 GPixel/s of fill-rate for flat shaded and wire-frame polygons and if you use very few textures, I do not know if REZ goes in this category, you can probably stuff them all in the eDRAM too without streaming them).

I do not think PSP's GPU was designed to excel in the same tasks as the GS, IMHO PSP was thought to approach PlayStation 2 graphics by working in a smart way on some of we could say weaknesses of PlayStation 2.

rez is a dreamcast game. of course the psp could handle it.

With wire-frame polygons and transparent ones the advantages of having a TBDR GPU are gone, but the more solid/opaque polygons there are the more the GPU can ... flex its wings.

Still, PSP has about 3x the fill-rate (not counting "effective" fill-rate here jarrod ;)) so yes, we might see a port of the Dreamcast version rather than the PlayStation 2 one (30 fps vs 60 fps) especially if they still use the 222/111/111 setting.
