REZ (PSP): Rumor Speaks:
http://www.shacknews.com/

"Something else came up in the discussion that was rather intriguing: a PSP port of United Game Artists' Rez. This too is sounding like a pretty sure thing. If you're unfamiliar with Rez (PS2, DC), it's a 3D floating-through-space shooter that has an incredibly clever synthesis between music and gameplay, with the electronica soundtrack building up in time with the player's actions. The game was designed by Q Entertainment founder Tetsuya Mizuguchi, who recently designed Lumines (PSP) and produced Meteos (DS). Anyway, with this upcoming port as well as the once impossible to find PS2 version of Rez being made available again, you shouldn't have any problems getting your hands on the game if you desire."

Make It Happen !!

Not sure how credible the source is. He mentions it came up in a discussion with his 'Sega Source'? Sounds fishy as hell to me.

But if this were to happen, good god that could be awesome.

I'm sure the control will be a real treat.

difficult to know if you're being sarcastic, but coming from a Dreamcast originally, it should be fine for the PSP control layout

It would be shit. You need to play it from a big TV with great sound to get the full experience of Rez, not a handheld.

The original rumble pack IS USB :P
I don't believe this news for a second though. Sega owns the rights and Mizuguchi no longer works for them. If this is ported it would be done without his input.

Definitely wouldn't say no to more Rez.

Would rather see a spiritual follow-up on Revolution though. That could work very well, and Rez is really a big TV+hi-fi game.

unless, SEGA hires Q Entertainment to develop it....

PSP has GREAT sound if you wear headphones... ain't you ever played Lumines with the headphones on? It's magically groovlicious, dude.

I can't even begin to imagine how this would be useful. Being on the PSP would basically be Rez with half the presentation. Which would be a very, very bad game.

It would lose something without rumble (and the control wouldn't be as precise with the nub), but I'd buy a copy just to support the game. And yes, although it's ideal through a kickass home theater system, headphones wouldn't be bad either.

are you implying that he's got a grudge against SEGA? last I heard the split was amicable.

Miz wouldn't touch Sega with a bargepole, according to his interviews with Kikizo.

But Sega could do a straight PSP port if they wanted no problem, I guess.

PEOPLE

before the game even loads it says it's recomended that you play the console verisons with a pair of headphones.

Heh, gotta love the mega-premature hate about this; a port to one of the most beloved games of this gen. Hey, this reminds me of the Valkyrie Profile port!

Transparent much!

I remember the whole GMR Rez re-print thing from a while back. I'm for a PSP port, it's probably a better experience on a big tv but it's still a fun game to play and try to master.

EXACTLY. I have never played REZ without. The PSP would be a good match. Hell, Lumines worked well, why not REZ? The PSP has some seriously good sound output when it comes to headphones and that is an integeral part of the REZ experience. Widescreen would certainly help the visuals and well, I am sure it would be a very nice game on the go. Perfect for short bursts.

I have it for the PS2, but I think it would be awesome portable. Just as long as they have a music player mode so I can listen to on the way to and from (Or during) work.

Port or not, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

It would also lose one of the big things that made the experience cool and that's having a nice dark room with a large display to really immerse yourself in the visuals.

Redundant point. Same could be said for every game. Haters be damned.

I don't think it's true in Rez's case. But, yeah, that's one of the big reasons I don't 'get' portable gaming so much. Too many distractions when all I want to do is just be sucked into a game's world in a controlled environment. I'm sure Sega could do a very nice, visually-upgraded version of Rez for PSP, though.

I don't think it really matters. You're much closer to the screen when playing handhelds than when when watching a large TV. I think it fills your field of vision the same as if you were watching a regular TV and sitting further back.

Was the PS2 version reprinted recently? Ebay appears flooded with it now.

Yes. These guys reprinted it: http://www.gamequestdirect.com/

Hell, Lumines worked well, why not REZ?

Because Lumines has gameplay? I tend to play it more muted than not. Cool music and all, but it isn't the focus of the game.

Either way, people who already own Rez probably won't buy it again for the sake of it being portable (well, then again...), and those who don't own either version would probably rather view it on a large display. Doesn't strike me as a very useful port.

Bah, that's just crazytalk. Rez is plenty enjoyable on shooter mechanics alone. Ever tried getting True ending, or going for 100% shotdown?

Yes on both accounts, and it didn't hold my interest enough to do it. It isn't a matter of being an easy game (although, overall, I guess it is one), but more of it just being pretty lacking compared to other on-rail forward-scrolling non-lightgun whatever-you-want-to-call-them games.

I know it's nice and relaxing and all to be completely stationary, but I'll have a hard time believing that Rez wouldn't have been significantly better if the game were built around the player being able to move a bit.
