'Ride the Lightning' cover from Megadeth.

It's pretty obvious why James was the lead singer. Not shitting on Dave, his voice fits his post Metallica songs. But he almost feels out of his element to me here. Still cool to hear, though.

It's good, but the vocals sound like they were recorded in a closet. Needs reverb.

Musically, it's on point. (y)
I feel the same way. While listening to it, I felt something was missing. The original song felt bigger somehow. I think that's it. Reverb was probably part of the reason for that.

My wife has brought up their show with Iron Maiden coming round in a few months. But I'm not sure either of these guys still has it.
Maiden still very much has it. I saw them in the Fall of '24 and they were excellent. Bruce sounds almost as good as he ever has. If 10 is his peak, he's still at a 9. And so is everyone else, except Nicko.

He, sadly, was the weakest link, because of the stroke and all that, but, even though he wasn't nailing the fills, his back beat was still solid and sufficient. He's since been replaced, though, so that's no longer relevant.

I saw Megadeth the same year. Not even close. The band is good. Teemu Mäntysaari might well be great. But Dave's voice is just fucking shot. I was happy to see him as a send-off, but I wouldn't pay the money they're asking to do it again.
