I've never played any of the RR games, what kinda music do they have?
The first three are a mix of "gamey" techno, happy hardcore, gabber, and a few other electronic genres. i might be generalizing a bit since i haven't played the original RR or Rage Racer in a while and only own the RR Revolution OST of the three. They're dated by today's standards and mostly not something i'd rock in my CD player if i hadn't played the game, but really good in terms of Japanese arcade racing game music.
R4 is a blend of house (vocal, with the organic "Quiet Curves" i love so much), progressive trance, and acid/electronic jazz. There's a good variance in the track with jazzy tracks like Pearl Blue Soul and harder tracks for the prerequisite hard driving, like Revlimit Funk, a sort of synth rock guitar big beat track. It's my favorite of the RR soundtracks due to variation and some really accessible tracks.
RRV returns a bit to RR's roots and is more electronic and hard than R4. A lot of it's progressive trance, or at least tracks that have similar progression and repitition. There's an oddball electronic rock track, "Dare Devil", a couple of house tracks and a ambient downbeat end theme by Boom Boom Satellites.
The genre classifications should be taken with a grain of salt, as a lot of the tracks combine various styles, making them hard to classify into one.
