Ridge Racer or Lumines?

I'm looking to take advantage of the gamerush deal..

I know they are totally different games and are both good, but I can only get one. I'm looking to hear from other psp owners who have played both extensively...

btw I currently own Wipeout, MGA & TM:HO.

It is an extremely difficult decision, and one I had to make just last week. It's like deciding which testicle you'd prefer to keep - either way, it will be painful. I suggest you do what I did and skip paying the phone bill in order to purchase both games. You'll be better off for it.

I said Lumines because he already has a racing fix with Wipeout, which is definitely the better racing game out of RR and Wipeout. He already has his racing fix, but not a puzzle fix.

so you're saying Wipeout is better than RR?

the thing is I have never bought a puzzle game in my life :lol

ridge racers is a better game than wipeout pure, imo, and in any case they're different enough to warrant owning both. lumines is a really good puzzle game, no more and no less -- disregard its adoption by the "games as art" crowd and its weird credibility among nintendo fans.

In case you (or anyone else) is interested, I'm looking to trade Ridge Racer PSP for Wipeout PSP. The game's in perfectly new condition of course, manual, case -- all that. Been playing it for two weeks, completed it, looking for something else.

PM me if interested! Any of you!

Drohne pretty much hit the nail on the head. Ridge Racer has had me hooked like nobody's fucking business since launch, I occasionally pick up Lumines. I'm mad at myself for getting Wipeout Pure at launch instead of TM:HO now, to be totally honest... :/ I just don't find it that fun. Anyway. Ridge Racer is pretty easily the best of the launch games, and unless Hot Shots is totally fucking awesome, I think it'll probably be PSP GOTY...

Ridge Racers is my favorite game on the system. I bought both Lumines and Ridge Racer when I bought the system and I've easily spent 3 or 4 times the amount of time I've spent playing Lumines on Ridge Racer.

I'd say Ridge Racer. Lumines is the most unfriendly portable PSP game imo (unless you suck at puzzle games :P)

Untold Legends. :D

But if you have to, between those two... I say Ridge Racer.
I almost picked that one up a few days ago when they didn't have Ridge Racer or Lumines in stock...but then I was reminded of the not so hot review scores so I decided to wait :lol

While Ridge Racer and WipeOut Pure are amazing, it's more of the same. Atleast Lumines is something unique and different, god forbid someone wants to play something with a little change of pace.

Untold Legends is amazing. screw the review scores. it's also the best selling game on the system so far, and for good reason. though you can't go wrong with Ridge Racer.. imo, Untold Legends is the best game on the system.

Theres a new GameRush promotion going on? I'm abit pissed at them because they stopped the buy 2 used get the 3rd game for for free deal. How does the new promotion work? Or is it the same old 5 dollars extra per game thing?

I really *REALLY* want Untold LegendsLegends game, but 40 is abit much. You guys were praising it earlier this week which makes me want it even more. Its too bad I can't rent it as every BlockBuster within my area has one damn copy and theyre all rented out every time I go to grab it.

I'd say go for Lumines if you've ever caught yourself getting addicted to games like Tetris or Dr. Mario and played them for a long period of time.

This is an extremely difficult choice. Both games are the epitome of PSP quality software. I guess Lumines is a bit more addicting.

Seriously if you can - get both and the first one you pop in will be there for a few weeks. I can't decide between the 2 at all.

If you really have to pick one then...I guess....Ridge Racer.

And when I say Ridge Racer, I mean Lumines

Sorry man :/

Lumines is the only PSP game I'm still playing, and I pick it up EVERY DAY. I have long since moved on from Ridge Racer and WipEout. Both are good, but you'd be better suited to go with Lumines for straight up fun.

I'm at the point in RidgeRacer where I have to restart my races over and over and over because placing 1st in the last course in a tourney is becoming rather hair pulling now. I guess I'm weak sauce but I need to take a break from it. Hello Untold Legends, heheh.

trade in 3, get 5 extra for each + trade in value, and combine that with trade in 2 and get new releases for $29.99.

Yeah, Lumines rivals RE4 and GoW for GOTY at this point, and obviously will be the one I am still playing a year from now.

Ridge Racer is fantastic from what I have played, but its not the greatest.

Ridge Racer has no lasting appeal for me. I played a view races, but I have no will to pick it up again.
Lumines, on the other hand, takes over my brain when I'm not playing it.

I'd say both. Buy Ridge Racers and by the time you have completed it you would have enough money for Lumines.
Lumines is a game for those who like personal challenges and thus it tooks a lot of time for each gaming session.

Wow. This is an extremely difficult choice to make.

You should absolutely try to get both but if you can only get one right now you should get Lumines. Ridge Racer is probably the best game on the PSP overall but after you finish all of the tours and unlock everything (which will take you a while) you won't really want to come back to it that often. Lumines is the kind of game that you can just pop into you PSP anytime and get sucked into. It's the perfect game for car rides and stuff like that. Time really flies by while playing it.

I've been playing both like crazy, but I prefer Ridge Racer over Lumines by a slight margin. I just love drifting all over the place...

Ridge Racer.

Honestly, Lumines can be fun, but unlike Tetris, it's not as "jump in and go anytime." For me, it requires a lot more time and attention.

I was indecisive at first, but bought RR instead of Lumines. I kind of wish I'd bought the latter, because RR hasn't brought all that much that's new and interesting to me (I've played R4, RRV, and Rage Racer for the first time all within the past 18 months or so). Also, RR's difficulty takes forever to ramp up properly. Trudging through the first 5-6 tours is a snoozefest, but after that things start to get interesting. If you've never played a RR or if it's been years since you have, RR is a good, comprehensive choice, and it's good for quick play sessions.

Isn't it true that both games cause your hand to cramp up after playing a long time?

How many of you have NOT had any pain or cramping from playing either game after a few hours? That is my biggest fear :(

of all the PSP games i have played, Lumines causes the LEAST cramping, unless you are playing while laying in bed. Then the cramp factor goes to 11, but it does that with any game on PSP.

I would pick Lumines. Ridge Racer is beautiful and plays great, but Lumines has this timeless quality to it, the fact that it can go as far as you can, where RR has a definite end in sight.

i haven't played RR, but i agree with you on Lumines. For me, it's the downside to the game. i'll tell myself "just one game before bed", and by time i look up, nearly an hour has passed from that one game. Yeah, there's puzzle mode, timed mode, and one skin mode, but puzzle mode bores me, and both the other modes lack the true feeling of progression of challenge mode. i'd play the versus CPU mode more, but it gets too hectic too fast and is more of a race to form squares versus chaining in challenge mode.

i'm too good, i got both of these games with my psp.
They're both really good games so the choice is difficult, I find that RR is better for short bursts and quick gratification drifting and nice graphics, whereas lumines is progressive and takes a while but when you do play it (if you like puzzle games at all) you'll find yourself immersed and/or put into a trance by the colors and music whilest playing it.

Lumines is the best investment in the long term. I was surprised with Lumines, it grows on you.

Ridge Racer is an excellent game too.

At first I had this problem, but I adjusted on how to control games with the analog nub. Now I have no problems.

Between the two games listed, I would pick Ridge Racer. The game is just so fun and with the higher classes the breakneck speed is amazing! But I have both games and if you can afford them both too I would get them.

As an aside, picked up Untold Legends today to play local wireless with a friend and we played for almost 6 hours straight. Great, great multiplayer fun. I prefer it to the console games because I don't have to move the screen at all to get decent viewing angle of the action plus you can both move at your own will on your own screen!

RIDGE RACERS.

(I like it better with the 's'.)

Lumines bored the heck outta me after a week. I've had Ridge Racers for 4 months now, and I still play it often. I love it.
