RIP Cora (my avatar)

Just getting this written down because it makes me feel better.

Our first family dog died this week at only 4 years old. Cora - the sweetest kindest black lab you could ever hope to know. A sudden aggressive onset of acute pancreatitis - operated on within a day, dead the following despite great intensive hospital care. 2 days from being outwardly fine and still loving her lunchtime walks with her wee sister, to dead.

Unfair, and absolutely heartbreaking for me, my wife and our two children.

I'm no stranger to heartache this year, with my dad passing away only a few months ago, but this one hurts like a bastard - almost to the point of being unbearable. Especially when you still have to carry on as normal for your other dog, and get questioned 'why only one today?' by well-intending regulars on those walks.

Anyway, apologies for posting it here in front of strangers, but for some reason it helps getting this stuff physically written down and out there.

One day at a time.

RIP Lady Cora Wigglebottom, 2021-2025 ❤️

You don't need to apologise for sharing this with us. Talking about those you have lost is the best way to work through it. I'm glad you felt like you could do that here.

Sorry for your loss. Cora looks like she was a really good girl.

Beautiful lab. Tragic story. Losing a pet is always hard, but the sudden ones hit differently. They change you.

RIP girl.

My god, I'm sorry for your dog. She looked pretty much like a dog I had when I was a kid. Rest in peace, hope she didn't suffer.

We live, we love, we lose. Your pain is your tribute, don't feel ashamed. Undoubtedly, Cora lived a better life due to you accepting them into your family.

14 years is wonderful, long life. My math sucks and that's way too soon. It gets easier, but it's okay to cry.

Sorry bro. Losing a dog is always super painful, regardless of how many times you've been through it before. My lab is getting up there in age and I'm dreading the day we have to put him down.

Sorry for your loss and sending love to you and your family ❤️

Losses, sudden ones especially can be like a gut punch. But your pain and sadness will pass and you'll be left with your memories and photos of your hairy princess 🫶

Fucking hell, mate... I send you a huge hug, much love, and here's to Cora, no question about it, she was a lovely pup and had an amazing family.

I have a lab as well (10 yo, blind after nearly losing his life a year ago) and even so I can't imagine what you're feeling, they're such innocent and heartful dogs.

Im sorry for your loss. I know how difficult it can be to lose a family pet. I recently lost my dog too and it is painful. They are our furry little friends who are always with there for us no matter what. At least she isn't suffering now. I can tell she was very much loved.

Sorry to hear that man. It's rough losing a dog especially that young. She was very cute and I'm sure a great dog. Something similar happened to me when I was a kid and my dog got hit by a car. It's hard enough for adults but devastating to kids. I hope your kids are doing ok.

Sorry for your loss. She was undoubtedly a very good girl. I had something similarly sudden happen with my Boglen Terrier a few years ago. It's shocking and leaves an emotional void. From what little you've shared about your ownership/relationship with her, I know she was lucky to have you for the time she spent here on Earth with us.

All dogs go to heaven.

R.I.P.

Edit:

Not to takeaway from this thread, but it just reminded me of the passing of my old best friend. Animals are so precious and delicate, if only they lived longer lives 😢😢.

"Grief is the price we pay for love."

They really are part of the family, and the grieving process can be the same.

You have beautiful photos and no doubt happy memories. When the questions from locals stop and the grief passes that's what you'll be left with.

That's really tough. Its always heartbreaking when it happens. I grew up with multiple dogs, so I know it's something that comes around every few years, but it never gets any easier

I still remember the day my dad told me our first dog had passed.

I can't imagine how hard this must be for your kids as well. It's tough on the whole family.

RIP.

I lost my best bud at 6 years old suddenly to leukemia so I know how it feels to be robbed.
I'm sure Lady Cora had a fantastic 4 years in a loving environment.

My sympathies to you and your family.
