Dude was an absolute enigma compared to modern societal standards. You could easily call some of his music racist, but he was actually incredibly inclusive in his work. He called out some anti gay activist at the time in a song, and had a black band member and a bunch of women in the band, as well. Possibly the original ragebaiter!

It really goes to show nothing is absolute, reality exists in shades of gray. Dude was just a proper outlaw country writer, pissing off everyone
