RIP Max streaming service

I never once called it max. That HBO open sound and static screen is so iconic
Yes, it's nice, it's quick and to the point, and it's pretty iconic...

But when we bunkering down with the popcorn on the couch for that featured world premiere presentation fam?

Remember that someone got paid a lot more than you make to rebrand it to MAX and then someone else got paid a lot more than you make to rebrand it back to HBO MAX.

back when HBO really mattered. I can't say I'd pay for modern day HBO. As a kid, all you thought about when you saw that sign was the possibility of watching nude women and a lot of violence.

LOL it's nice to see stupid executive decisions fail and get reversed.

Okay Elon, now it's time to change X back to Twitter.

HBO was a perfect name for a streaming service since it was built on the prestige of decades of high quality tv programming. It didn't make ANY sense to drop the HBO part and call it MAX which is the most generic thing you can come up with.

The term "Home Box Office" is great for streaming too.

Yeah, so you have new leadership in marketing.

I didn't like the name change, but I think people are too busy taking the piss to probably understand why they did it in the first place. Is HBO a prestigious brand? Absolutely, I think most of us can agree that it is.

It's also a brand with a pretty well established ceiling and the service aimed to be something bigger than just HBO. It was basically a complete extension of all things WB and Discovery and in a game where you need as many subscribers as you can get 100+ million, you have to try and remove that ceiling associated with HBO. Prestige TV isn't for everyone and network tv routinely gets better ratings, it's cheap and easy to consume.

I think they got the most out of the Max branding and they decided changing back to HBO has merit too. No one is going to cancel their service now because they already know what the service is, but now you can have that prestige back and maybe get back some subscribers who don't know that this is HBO.

They've had tremendous success with House of the Dragon, TLOU, White Lotus, and Succession. The timing is right to rebrand.

I wish they would make up their mind. I guess they finally realized that dropping the HBO was stupid.

It's also stupid they removed Westworld. They should put it back.
