I saw UFO 50 dropped on Switch, so I plugged the old girl in to get her charged up. A few hours later and I've got nuthin, I'm assuming the battery is dead in the water. She didn't get a whole lotta use, but I'll miss her nonetheless.

One of these days Amazon will notify me about the Switch 2 queue that I'm waiting in, hopefully before Prime 4 drops.


And as a side rant: wtf, why didn't UFO 50 drop on the other consoles!?!?

Maybe try to plug it to somewhere else, like an usb charger. could be just bad wiring.

I tried a few various charger/cable combos to be sure.

You can try replacing the battery? Unless you are set on getting the Switch 2 now

I'll just wait on the 2, I'm more bummed about having to wait even longer to play UFO 50.

If your battery is at zero and unused for a long period of time, it'll take a while to get it back up to workable condition. You might also want to try charging it without the joycons for a few hours too.

Plug it for 24 hours, try turning it on keeping power pressed for a good while, if nothing happens plug it for an extra 24 hours. It's the equivalent of CPR. Have you tried turning it on while plugged directly (no dock?). Otherwise yeah, unless it's a v1 and you forgot it got autorcm your battery might need replacement.

Keep it plugged in for a while, happened with an old Switch of mine. Came on after a while. Might be worth a shot.

It's been plugged in for about 8 hours or so, I'll leave it be and check it tomorrow in the morning.

A miraculous resurrection would be nice, I've waited long enough for UFO 50 dammit.

idk about the OG units but the lite battery replacement I did a few year back was a ballache due to them gluing the fucker in.

Shh, this all just might be a convenient reason to tell the wife/gf about needing to get a new toy.

These things are unavoidable. It's sad that there's no recourse but to get a new system. Honestly it would morally and financially unbecoming NOT to, good sir!

I feel like the Switch is one of those purchases that any lady friend would be down for as well, since she would get a lot of use out of it too (in my experience, women love Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and other cozy games on Switch)

Don't think so. Last I checked BestBuy and Target had them in stock and if they got out of stock, it went back within a few days.

My Switch lite did something similar not long ago after I hadn't used it for a bit. Left it plugged in overnight and that seemed to bring it back to life, wasn't all roses tho. There was an update so I did that and when it reset the battery had dropped from 100 to 15, then I proceeded to watch it lose another 1% every few seconds. Read up online it can sometimes happen if you don't use the Switch for a while I've been charge cycling it since and it seems to have fixed it somewhat, now seems to hold a charge a lot better, but still not as well as before unfortunately.

Im pretty sure the non lite version has the battery glued in as well. People were using heat guns to start prying that thing out

My launch Switch and OLED had the same problem, but The Battery Charge Indicator or Percentage Displays Incorrectly on Nintendo Switch fixed it.

lol, this thread has now become about whether I should impulse buy a Switch 2 today. Are there any must have titles for it besides the new MK and Donkey Kong game? Any word on Prime 4 or is it still "sometime" in 2025?

I don't plan to get the Switch 2, at least not yet, but if I had it, i'd have MK, DK, and that racing game that's like Wipeout. That's it so far.

Biggest hit at my house has been the updates to BotW. I think TotK and Odyssey got them as well. Game is silky smooth 60fps and I assume 4k. What got me was how much better the load times are. Thinking back on BotW I forgot about those terrible load times on every fast travel. Switch 2 negates this for me almost entirely. The initial load is MUCH faster but subsequent loads are even faster than that, not giving time to even read a tip without speed reading. BotW is a much better game with the Switch 2 upgrade, I could never go back. DK is amazing masterpiece MK honestly is better than ever and a solid jump over the last one but for me the biggest thing is the upgrades to old Switch 1 games.
