Roadrunner, a behind the scene look into Anthony Bourdain

it has been 3 years since Anthony Bourdain passed, and today the film Roadrunner is out that takes a sort of behind the scene look into his life. it's a collection of footages from his shows and videos, along with interviews with people who had worked very close with him for years, plus close friends.

as someone who LOVES his show very much and had been influenced by him in some ways, this was a day one must watch for me. I just got home from watching this and I'm happy to say the film is wonderful. although it does get rather heavy towards the end and it gets a little emotional. anyway, just want to spread the word and if you are a fan of him and it's available for viewing for you, I highly recommend it.

As soon as I saw that thread title that stupid Roadrunner song popped into my head. “Roadrunner roadrunner, running faster miles an hour.”

So basically what he said?
Tv Show Reality GIF by Endemol Beyond

I've got every episode he ever aired on my phone in case i just need to unwind sometimes.. conflicted on whether or not i wanna watch anything post-bourdain..

this is kinda both a tribute to his life and an in depth dive into his past. a look into his mind of sorts, if you will. might even give some new perspective on his old shows. so if you like his shows, I would definitely say give it a try.

He was my hero.

Someone i looked up to and wanted to meet and hang out more than any celebrity in this world.
I even dreamt one-time I took him to this random hole in the wall restaurant and I rarely remember any of my dreams.
I dont even really know him personally but I still have not forgiven him for killing himself and having his dear friend Eric find him.

I havent seen anymore shows or the ones he had left to show on CNN, but I may look out for a VOD or 'rip of this documentary to give him some closure.

Clarkson is back to being my hero now.
But i cant imagine having dinner with him without getting into some sort of fracas.

I think a lot of people who end their lives early just feel disconnected from the whole plot. Maybe it’s not always just sadness but the whole architecture just stops having any meaning.

Or it’s just different for everyone. Idk but it makes you think.

His death is significant if you know where to look.
His girlfriend, Asia Argentino, had the guts to call out members of the cult during a live speech @ the Cannes Film Festival. She ended it with “WE know who YOU are, and we’re not going to allow you to get away with it any longer.”
That open threat was met with Bourdain’s “suicide” around a month later.

Dude, i agree the french film industry is a cesspool of pedos and fucked up white dudes (as in 31 years old Luc Besson marrying a 15 years old Maïwenn Le Besco after knoking her up, the Polansky bias, etc...). But for them to assassinate the scorned lover of their batshit crazy "ennemy" on empty threats by that said ennemy, is a bit much.

Bourdain had an addict temper, restaurants' kitchens (in France at least) literally run on cocaine and alcohol. When he stopped taking drugs, he got addicted to crazy women, i don't think we need secret societies or reptilians assassins for this story to end bad.

Still i wish your theory was true but instead of Bourdain they suicided Hugo Clément that tiny fuckboy.

I thought the other theory made more sense. The one where he found out his girlfriend was a predator herself and then tried to protect her. Then she thanked him by sleeping around with other people. In that theory supposedly it was the final straw that broke him. (Of course it's all speculation since we can never ask him.)

Argento, who cheated on him constantly. The worst one was sleeping with a 17 year old that she had met when he was just a young boy on a movie where she played his mother. She was photographed with another man a few days before he ended himself. Pretty sure that's what made him do it.

She can go and fuck herself.

Plus supposedly Bourdain paid the kid off to keep quiet probably didn't help his mental health. I think I heard in the end when all the *** hit the fan after Bourdain died and all this came out she actually tried to get the money back for herself. Not sure if that's true though.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. She is a vile, evil person and a complete #metoo hypocrite.

Always felt connection with him and his outlook on life and the way he perceived life was the same way I did.

Shame what happened but those last few days must’ve been rough with his wife at the time.

Yeah, well, that probably helped do him in....:

autopsy shown he's clean at the time of death. he had quit drugs for a long time already.

Not going to watch this, but I heard they really soft-balled the Argento stuff.

Yeh? I heard they pretty clearly pointed the finger at her as the reason for his suicide.

yeah, they didn't soft-ball anything. they basically stopped just short of calling her his murderer.

I skimmed through an interview about why he didn't interview Argento for the doc, and I got the impression that he softballed it because he kept saying it muddled the message or something to that effect.
My mistake.

no worries. in the film, they interviewed mostly his close friends and people who worked with him very close for many years. a lot of them were not happy with how Argento replaced the director in the last season of Parts Unknown. and her influence had also caused Bourdain to changed the show in ways they don't feel is good. even to the point of getting rid of the camera man who had been with him through all the years. like they said, that last season, the highs were really high but the lows were really low too. they definitely don't have kind words toward Argento.

Girlfriend. I think technically he was still married to his wife Ottavia. (To be honest it sounded like he had an amicable separation with her.)

The whole AI voice thing is still too creepy for me to feel comfortable watching. Hearing it in the trailer alone was bizarre. Sounded off.

what AI voice thing are you referring? if you're talking about the voice of Bourdain, I'm like 90% sure that's just them using stuff from old footage and shows, and also unused recordings of script reads.

They used AI to have "him" read sections of an email he had sent to someone. The "you are successful and I am successful.." part at 1:30 in the trailer isn't actually him. Once you know that you can tell it's kinda off, but it's very convincing if you don't.

ah, I see. I definitely didn't know about it going in and couldn't tell the difference at all. probably one of those "once you see it, you can't unsee it" kinda situation.

Yeh, like I said one of those lines is in the trailer and I doubt the vast majority of us noticed anything strange about it.

I think it's weird but at least it's something he "said" in that he wrote it. Rather than them just putting words in his mouth. We're definitely getting into some strange territory with that kind of thing, and it's only going to continue.
