Are any 3rd party guitars up to snuff with the official ones? I am a PS3 only owner and want to get into RB. I am not sure I can afford the big box so I was wondering...

EDIT: Alternatively, am I a fool to not wait for the RB2 hardware?

I, personally, have found the Nyko Frontman to be complete shit. It eats batteries like I can't believe, it frequently loses signal, the buttons are small and unpleasant, it feels cheap... etc. etc. I strongly dislike it. This is all on PS3.

Personally I'm waiting for the RB2 drums. If it was an issue I would wait for the RB2 guitar. Mic is the same.

Yeah. I couldn't give less of a shit about a band when they have a name like that. It also pretty much means they're considered for upcoming DLC.

That is pretty seriously douchey. I still love The Fucking Champs. Apparently "The Champs" turned out to have been taken so they made it better... unlike the asshats locally named "Pillows" whom almost always end up getting referred to as "The Pillows" which means they get confused with "the pillows" who only played near here once recently and I almost missed because of the constant errors. One is from Japan and is an awesome J-Rock band. One is from Oakland and is a mellow female duo that sucks donkey smeg. The newer, shittier band needs to change or clubs need to get smarter either labeling appropriately ("Not the ones from Japan!" "The one that sucks") or just being wise enough not to book them at all.

I'm also upset that some asshat took my band name already. How in the fuck am I no longer allowed to be "The Axis of Awesome"?!? This is not right! At least "Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!" still knows how to rock the house and seriously confuse you on the date of their gigs six days out of the week.

One day I will definitely form a real band with one of these two names.

At least you can play a real guitar. :/

Well, you can play bass. As a student of the instrument I very much respect it and there are some brutal songs out there, but there is also a lot of stuff that you can teach just about anyone in about 15 minutes. If you can play "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" in RB you can play it on bass. It's practically identical. even down to most of the finger positioning (the majority of it is indeed F# on the second fret of the E string). "Where Is My Mind?" is also pretty damned simple.

I'm sure there are equivalents on the guitar, but it's decidedly harder to learn to form chords (I know I could almost never manage to get it down without muting half the strings... while sitting on the couch carefully trying to get just that chord down) let alone switching chords.

The reason you play bass, however, is not because it's easier (to start at least... think of it as a GH1 learning curve, rather than GH2), but because bass is awesome.

While real, I would be lying if I said Red Dwarf doesn't strongly influence my tendency to use it far more frequently than I would otherwise. Coming soon: "gorram fracking shazbot!".

So, In This City by Iglu & Hartly is curently being played FAR TO MUCH on the radio, but I still think I is a good fit for Rock Band. I am offically adding it to my list of songs that I want

I've never heard it before, but after listening to only half of it I think I hate it more than just about other song I've ever heard. It's just about everything I could possibly hate about a song distilled down into a single piece of aural horror. I even have deep, seething rage over their awful name, video, and how they look.

They might be my most hated thing ever. Even Hitler even had that great mustache and some swanky boots.

Rock Band makes me want to learn bass. How much harder can it be?

I'd wanted to learn for years and years, but it wasn't until a year or two ago that I finally got my shit in gear and started. The difference is that you really have to want it. Otherwise it's pretty easy to get discouraged as with any instrument, but also by the massive waves of inferiority that bassists often get to deal with.

Rock Band does make it easier. Much easier in many cases. "Here Comes Your Man", for example, isn't astoundingly difficult, but the main riff is played across all four strings and when you play an open string you then have to mute it (by lightly tapping it in a number of different ways) or it will continue to ring out. This plus just getting it down is a good deal trickier than it would seem in the game. Not to mention all the many, many other reasons why the skill sets don't really translate as much. It is, thanks to less usage of chords, still closer than guitar.

Well, Im so glad Harmonix is confident is their shittastic fucking hardware, because having the red pad die on my RB2 drums is doing wonders for my confidence in them.
Is it ceasing to register? Causing double-huts?

I don't know about ceasing to register, but double-hits and cross-talk can be easily fixed by popping off the drum head and tightening the piezo a quarter turn or so. I'm thinking if it just stopped registering, then it must be a wire issue in there. I agree that you shouldn't have to do anything, and the hardware should just work, but it's probably a simple fix.

There are audio differences?!? Please enlighten me as I've never come even close to noticing them before.

Personally my gripe is that it's too easy to progress up in venues. I should have to spend more time playing small clubs before progressing. Maybe it's just their continued goal of making everything exceedingly easy, but I often feel railroaded to continue with the next goal and that getting new clubs is laughably easy. I basically just have to play two songs? That's beyond trivial. Some cities should have tough, high fanbase requirements or something. As it is the higher venues open so quickly that they might as well not even be locked to begin with.

It just feels and sounds like a bigger club? I play with headphones a lot too.

As far as progression, I temper that manually by finishing as much of a venue as I can before I progress. After all, what kind of band only plays two songs and then leaves the stage?

;D

Well, I'm not surprised in the least. Time to pony up that $5 gents.

Assuming the game remains easy to rent. I don't know what it's like in the US, but I don't imagine Rock Band 1 being all that easy to obtain in the UK in year or so.

In the US:

1. Go to Gamestop
2. Buy used copy of Rock Band
3. Pay free to transfer songs
4. Return game for full refund
5. ????
6. Profit!

Return game for a full refund?! Man, you guys have the best and worst of times over there. Your economy may be going to shit, but at least you can exploit the little man!

They should just make the songs available for RB2 owners when RB3 comes out. Then loop it round like that. But obviously as a result we should stop calling it a platform, and this thread should have the word removed, aw!

It's the American way Dave.

It's not crap, but it's not the omega pedal either. The mechanics are the same as the stock pedal (spring underneath) but it's FAR more solid, and the pressure is correct. The thing can take a stomping. The action is very quick, and it does make grace notes much easier to execute.
It does click when it triggers, though, which is what most people hate. It's not horribly loud, but when compared to the quietness of the rest of the set, it stands out.

The omega pedal is still better, but I'd say that there's not much else that beats this one.

also, you got my post a few pages back about layouts, right? Hopefully it's enough to guide you to an 'accurate' set up....by the way, you'll fucking love the set, have fun with it tomorrow.

Just remember to move the mounting bracket for the brain from the center cross bar over to the left arm.

As long as it's better than my shitty metal pedal, which is astondigly worse than the stock RB1 pedal, I'll be happy. Can I at least be able to do really tight double hits and constant pedal use?(Like the one found in the last verse of Ride the Lightning and the constant bass hits used in all the Megadeth songs?)

And yeah I saw your layout, and It'll be really helpful once I get the set. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until Tuesday to get my set due to fedex only changing the status of my order today(On friday it randomly went on a truck to Whitby, when I live in Toronto, and even though I contacted them directly, they only changed the delivery exception status today, so no the expected delivery date is on the 30th instead of the 29th)

EA Hardware support:

I broke the Guitar Strum Bar late July, and I was very lax with bugging them. Initially they replied, and I assumed that it was handled. But it was three weeks, and I got nothing back. Then I checked my e-mail and noticed that they haven't done anything, and asked for a new RMA request. Since then, the pedal has also broken.

I've done one last week again, and I've gotten the auto-reply. Should I be concerned? Or should I just do a phone followup right away?

I'd call them up. Sounds like they're doing a shit job on RMA's these days.

Question about using Entropay on PSN, I heard it's blocked, but several sites still say this is the way to go if you want to buy stuff from the US Store if you're in Europe. Anyone here who can shed a light on this?

I know it used to work, at one point in time. I'm pretty sure has since been blocked and entropay will no longer work.
I'm not positive, though.

I rather like the song. Nice and catchy, get some amusement out of the "dave vitty" version on Radio 1, however with the "name, video, and how they look" thing: true story, in English today I saw the band name on the cover of a GQ a friend had from a few months back (she's writing about music magazines, you see) and picked it up, found the page with them, had a quick glance, saw the picture and closed the mag putting it down.

Further confirmation that the Wii version of RB2 won't be gimped as much as RB1 was: http://kotaku.com/5056299/wii-dlc-confirmed-for-rock-band-2

While unannounced, MTV Games has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Wii version of "Rock Band 2'' will offer the same online functionality — i.e. song downloads and Internet multiplayer modes — as the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 versions. The PS2 version, however, will not include online connectivity.

Competition is a good thing.

Impossible if you're lazy fucks farming out to a port developer who didn't have the resources to rebuild anything but the basic engine in time for launch.

I guess this means the Wii version has graphics this time.

Just got an email from Stride myself, pity I've bought everything already. I guess there's no way of using the code against BSSM this week if I intend to buy the whole album. This is on PS3 BTW

So basically Nintendo is announcing a storage solution Wednesday night.
Not true. They could be following GH:WT's route, which was in the New Nintendo Power:

Basically, GH:WT asks that you have 200 blocks free, and all DLC is stored on SD card and streamed to system on demand.

FWIW, Best Buy's pre-order t-shirts also advertise the Wii's internet functionality, but with two key differences.

1. The Wii version isn't likely to get the 20 additional songs, as it isn't listed as a feature as it is on the 360 and PS3 pre-orders.

2. It also doesn't advertise as having 500 songs by the end of the year. Whether or not this merely has to do with the RB1 disc not being compatible with RB2 or something else, it isn't clear.

Other than that, the same features as the others are listed.

That does creat a conundrum, where the Wii lacks the disc export feature.

For everyone still playing on stock drums;

Stop.

Get a pedal replacement or plate.

Get some fucking silencers. Those stock drums are ass :(

"She's a Handsome Woman" is a much better song than 'Nine in the Afternoon". That should have been on the disc instead of DLC.

I mean it's not a great song or anything, but the vocal melody in the chorus is damn catchy.
