Um, yes it is. I can access and play nearly all my RB tracks, all RB DLC, and all my RB2 tracks in a single game. I cannot, however, play my GH2 disc and DLC tracks in GH3, or my GH2 + GH3 disc and DLC tracks in GHWT.

Don't forget the Aerosmith game.

1 cross-platform DLC purchase is not equivalent to exporting all of RB1 and all of the DLC being cross-compatible. Don't jump all over this announcement yet. It only concerns Wal-Mart and the retail power of it all. The real details haven't been announced yet.

Jesus, you guys are quick to bitch. I was expecting youtube videos of Dropkick Murphys, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson or some shit.

And I can play my Death Magnetic DLC in both GH3 and GH:WT. Even though GH:WT isn't out. If RB is a platform so is GH.

Then GH2 was a shitty platform, making you repurchase 3-pack songs of GH1 if you wanted to play them.

And mostly tracks not worth playing/paying for again either...

Whelp Rock Band has officially sold out. Unless of course the AC/DC songs ever become downloadable. Which seems unlikely at this point.

Edit: (Reacting to link below post) Damnit, can't I just buy Thunderstruck seperately? That's all I really need.

I think having the disc be Wal-Mart exclusive actually makes the chances of it being released as DLC more probable. One way or another I trust that we'll be able to play all the released songs with the RB2 disc.

According to the site I posted above, you can. The "platform" is still alive.

Part of me hopes for that, because I'm aware that there's only going to be a few tracks I want to actually play in the game. Either way no big deal if I miss out on 'em.

Is this not ruining the ROCK BAND PLATFORM. The more discs the worse. I just bought RB2 I don't want to buy another disc.

Why not just offer this for DLC?

Rockband needs this to lure bands over to their side. To get a band like the Beatles. It needs to be the THE BEATLES for Rockband, not ROCKBAND: by the way download some Beatles songs . . . please?

Cool, thanks for the confirmation.
saunderez said:
So is it a standalone game or a track pack? Does it require Rock Band 1 or 2? The site is useless apart from the tracklisting.
Well it's being released for the Wii and the PS2 so it'll at least be a stand alone game on those platforms (and giving reason to believe they would be stand alones on the 360 and PS3).

Yeah, I don't see a reason why Harmonix can't do these as long as ALL the songs find their way onto DLC. It can be like CDs in that families can pop in their Beatles DVD when the mood strikes. No need for World Tour or anything extravagant like that.

Does that mean they'll also be able to be played just straight off the disc as well? Is this a new miniature version of Rock Band? Could someone theoretically buy this and then play all their DLC off this version of the game without ever having to buy RB1 or 2?

If you can play this standalone, I bet it will be very feature deprived.

AC/DC won't allow individual downloads (the reason they're not on iTunes), but I'd like to be able to download the whole package so I don't have to wait for a Euro release.

Most likely an individual code that allows you to transfer the content over to your HD. Same way you did with RB1, only instead of buying a $5 code online, you're buying a $30 disk with and code in the manual (like the 20-song one).

Maybe it'll have an instant export option in it since Wal-Mart's the only place selling it? Though, a one use code would be far more likely.

Awesome list, of course, they're all from Live at Donnington, just so people aren't expecting studio recordings (thought the "Live" in the title should indicate that).

Never liked AC/DC much and judging by how god-awful their RB2 track is for drums I'll only spend my money on this if there are individual song downloads. I recognize a few tracks on there that my friends would kill me for not downloading. It's questionable though if AC/DC has traditionally not allowed individual downloads.

I'm far from an AC/DC expert, but no 'Who Made Who' is a tragedy. Just listen to the first line! Oh well. Hopefully sometime down the line they release some studio versions, that included.

Expect 18 tracks of that same drum beat at varying tempos.

I'll buy the disc if we can export the songs. Let There Be Rock is boring on drums but the song is still awesome. I have no problem playing it what so ever when it shows up.

edit: looks like we will have 2 versions of "Let There Be Rock". (Live & Studio)

$40 for 18 tracks and so far not available as DLC.

for live tracks at that, which makes 'em far less appealing to me. 17 if you don't count Let There Be Rock, which we already have the studio version of in RB 2.

$30 for 18 tracks...
but it's still a rip-off. agreed.

This is a track pack guys.

Notice: "All tracks from the AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack will be available in Rock Band and Rock Band 2"

Looks like it'll be DLC to me. Possibly an export. The "platform" is still alive and well (RIP Enter Sandman).

I will purchase that day 1 maybe 2 copies just to piss off the whiners. The price might be high but this one of my all time favorite bands. I love the RB platform it makes it much more fun to play with others because of sheer amount of songs and variety.

I have no problem forking over the $ for this track pack if the songs can be played from my Rock Band 2 disc in the drive (i.e., no disc swapping needed).

You know, at first I was really disappointed by this being live tracks and not the studio versions, but then I thought about it, and the game pipes in artificial crowd noise anyways, and there's already crowd singing along with you for all the other songs. Now those sound effects will be real instead of artificial.

I'm not going to knock it until I try it in-game, but I have a feeling this might be the only medium where a live version of a song could be as good or (dare I say it) better than a studio track? The live version should be more immersive for a video game where you're imagining yourself as the performer.

AC/DC suck. I doubt I'll buy this to be honest.

I'm not going to say they suck, but the thing that prevents me from REALLY being sold on it, is just the song's are the same ones that have been aired on the radio/whatever for eons now, that I feel no real need to ever listen to them on my own time, much less pay for them.

Guess just a fancy way of saying "I think AC/DC is pretty damn overplayed".

Never thought of it that way you might be 100% correct. If it works I would not mind seeing a lot more live versions of songs as DLC.

What, how are you counting that? Rock Band in Europe, Rock Band 2 in the US, and then ACDC Live: Rock Band, Rock Band 1 Track Pack? That's 4, and including the EU release to get close to your 5 number is a stretch.

Or splitting up (now this is a big stretch) Rock Band 2 360, Rock Band 1 EU 360, Rock Band 1 EU PS2, Rock Band 1 EU PS3, Rock Band 1 EU Wii, Rock Band 1 US Wii?

I thought there was two "track packs" and AC/DC. Turns out there's only one. Still; Rock Band, Rock Band Track Pack, Rock Band 2, Rock Band AC/DC.

I like this turn of events anyway.

That's 4 games in the series, but so far only 3 released in one region in a year. Don't expect both ACDC and RB2 in Europe. Don't expect either, actually :P

Jon approves of: Track Pack being on Wii of tracks that are DLC on other platform
ACDC tracks also being DLC or exportable (it seems)

Jon >:( at: RB1/RB2 tracks not being on the store, so you have to buy both for specific songs.
Albums missing songs for RB1 owners.

So long as people stop calling Rock Band a platform I want as many discs as possible. Just...preferably not $30 discs that have less than 20 songs.

I await EA/Harmonix/MTV making the disc full price in Europe.

Yuck, I want less and less discs. Having my RB1/2/DLC all in one stop with RB2 is a huge plus for me, and when I have the ability to install games to my 360's HDD, RB2 will likely be the only one I do that with.

Anything that keeps me from having to swap discs will make me happy.

Lol @ available in Europe.

For one, it's Rock Band, for two, AC/DC... yeah, they're well known, but... basically, I wouldn't have expected Rock Band Aerosmith to come out in Europe.

so...everyone knows to expect $30 for PS2 and Wii and $40 for Xbox360 and PS3, right?

'from'.... Since different Walmarts don't price the same mechandise differently, we can only assume that the 'from' suggests the different versions of the merchandise will have differing prices.

Ugh, I think you're right. Here's to hoping Harmonix offers individual songs available as DLC, but the chances of that are slim and nill. Now I'm not so excited about getting gouged for $40 for 18 songs. :(

My ideal situation: a new disc with a career and achievement points. Play through, love. Then disc export to hard drive which songs you want. Play them in the main game.

AC/DC sure are the epitome of a great American band :lol

That... just sounds weird to me, considering how often I forget career type stuff other than earning money to buy new shit. If you say you want a story mode to go along with the career, then I'll know for sure that you're crazy. But at the same time, so long as exporting songs is always an option, I'm fine with anything Harmonix tosses up.

Why? What's wrong with having a reason to play these songs? Nothing is more stupid than the RB Tour storyline, am I expected to believe I'm becoming a world famous musician by playing covers around the world?

What I'd really love is GH/RB meets Brutal Legend. I've got a basic idea for gameplay that I might get around to prototyping in XNA if I ever get the time.
