This is true. A subscription model is the only way to keep licensing sustained now with music relation, not unlike the plethora of music sub services now (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.).

That or someone will just make an AI-driven app that can take any audio input and convert it into a serviceable Rockband-like without having to license anything.

Probably not too far off with the AI stuff. Right now you can have any song you want charted for Clone Hero or YARG by paying someone a couple of bucks on Fiverr.
