I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
A few months ago I was in NY and shopping around the China Town area (at least I think it was China Town...it was a couple blocks of nothing but little shops selling shit at really low prices). Anyway some old lady at one store took me aside and showed me a case full of "Rolexes" and acted all cautious and shit, always looking over her shoulder as if the police were going to bust her ass any minute. Anyways, there was one I liked, and I was able to haggle it down to 20 bucks, so I figured what the hell, I'll get it for shits and giggles.

So, first off, this is a replica, and not a stolen authentic Rolex as she was trying to pass it off as, right? I've heard that both are sold around there, but I don't know what to believe.

Also, the thing is too damn big for me and I need the band adjusted, but I've heard that Rolex replicas are considered contraband and can be confiscated. Is that true, and should I bother taking it in somewhere to be adjusted?

The one I got looks exactly like this:

Is there an easy way to tell if it's a fake, and if so, what class replica it is?

Also, it's one of those kinetic watches.....is it supposed to sound like there's something rattling around in it if you shake it?

I'm pretty sure that all Rolex watches have a sweep hand. But that's all I know about them.
How exactly does a sweep hand move? This one seems to move in ticks, but it's a lot more than one per second, like four or five per second, so it moves kind of smoothly. Is that a sweeping hand?

Again, I'm no expert, this is just going from what my father told me a few years ago, but as far as I understand, sweep movement is totally smooth, there shouldn't be any ticking.

In recent years, Rolex has added additional security features to help differentiate a genuine model from a counterfeit, including: a hologram encoded sticker on the case back, as well as a tiny (almost microscopic) “crown” laser etched into the crystal—at the 6 o’clock position. The warranty papers have also been changed to a completely new design, with watermarks imbedded into the paper to help avoid duplication by a computer scanner.

^ That might help you out a bit more.

Sounds like it's a replica. Real Rolex watches have a very smooth sweeping action, doesn't tick.

Fuck, you mean I paid 20 whole bucks and didn't get a real Rolex watch?

A real rolex/tag/ect swiss mechanical watch WILL NOT rattle inside. Everything is precision made and fitted, so there should not be a rattle.

Most replicas are not swiss movement (sweeping hand) but quartz movement (ticking hand).

Im pretty sure the submariner has a steel band, which means that if the metal is real it should not ding and scratch like a brushed aluminum replica.
