Romancing SaGa recieves US Release Date

Source: RPG-Fan

Square Enix has announced that Romancing SaGa will ship to US retailers on October 11, 2005. The game, a remake of the original Super Famicom game Romancing Saga, was released in Japan under the title Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song.

Romancing SaGa will be rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older and will carry an MSRP of $39.99 USD. Stay tuned to RPGFan for some hands-on impressions coming soon.

Radiata September, Romancing October, Dragon November, ¿Kingdom December?

Pray everyone, pray :lol

Btw, I'm sold on R.SaGa

I saw that on RPGFan, but didn't we already know that? I've had 10/11 marked on my little board for the game for at least a couple months now. And I think you're going to have to pray mighty hard for Kingdom December. :D

There's a pretty large chance that KH2 won't even make it out this year in Japan, so December for US would be even more difficult.

God, I cannot resist these games, no matter how painful they are to me. Can't fuckin' wait.
Having played a decent chunk of all 3 RoSa games, this one seemed like it was most in need of a work-over.
Did Bebpo do a review of this when it hit Japan that I missed, or did everyone just ignore this game?

Who can resist Drag-On December?
I should finish Drakengard one of these days. I actually enjoyed it.

Not sure, although I think it sold pretty well (?). All I know is that the video trailer looked awesome, and the OST (Kenji Ito = God) is one of the best in years, so I'm picking this up regardless. This is my Killer 7 dammit! I'm one of the few people who really liked SaGa Frontier, and I think this is supposed to play like that, so I'm happy.

I shouldn't be making snap judgements, but let's be honest. Kawazu's fingerprints are all over this one.

Meaning: It's beautiful, in a fucking crazy way.

No. Beautiful, in a fucking retarded way only rucking retards would enjoy.

Sorry, really. But God, don't you guys remember Unlimited SaGa? :(

IGN's preview was pretty harsh. Usually you get no info from a preview other than hype but IGN ripped this game a new ass.

Hopefully it is better than they let on but my interest dropped substantially after reading that.

Uh. Yes. And I enjoyed it.
*puts helmet back on*

I've played the original game this is based on, it's nothing like Unlimited SaGa, more like Romancing SaGa 3 if you've played that, or kinda but not really like Legend of Mana with a traditional battle system.

Well, yeah, but they're both still chock full of that SaGa ness that makes them oh-so delicious.
Stat systems were similar right? Or has it already been that long since I played US. I can't remember if you got random stat ups at the end of battles or not. *shrug*

I have no interest in this game, and it could suck for all I care, but this paragraph in the IGN preview stood out:

weaksauce IGN previewer with no willpower said:
And why even go through the hassle of returning the player back to the title screen after death? Romancing Saga includes a "quick save" feature. "Quick save," as Romancing Saga defines it, involves being able to save the game anywhere, any time, even when not at a save point. This means you can save in a dungeon and return back to that exact point if you die. Saving after every battle slows the game's pace, so since the feature is there, the developers might as well have taken out the middle step of actually saving by allowing you to continue play from just before battle should you die.

So they're blaming Square for the fact that they have no self control? Quick save in this game sounds like the same kind of convenience that I view save-states as being in emulators. They're great for when you're playing something with savepoints but must leave quickly and can't get back to one. Don't complain about challenge or anything when you go out of your way to make it as easy as possible. I'm sure this guy wrote a preview that went something like this:

"Unfortunately, the developers failed to provide a specialized forcefield that would prevent me from inserting my Gameshark disc into my PS2. If they were going to do that they may as well have just made "Win Game" a menu option."

FINALLY! SaGa in english! I can't wait for this. Any word if they "tweaked" the gameplay, or is it pretty much a graphical upgrade?

From our good pal Bebpo
If you like the original Romancing Saga the PS2 one is pretty much the most faithful remake ever. But that means like the original it's confusing, extremely unforgiving, and kinda Kawazu over-complicated at the same time.

As long as the menu system got smoothed out, I think I can live with this game.

Sweet christ, we're agreeing on something. Mark this day down.
Although the in game models do look kinda bizarre, but I'll live. It's seemingly fitting. Makes me want to boot up my SFAM cart right now.

I think our main disagreement lies with Dragon Quarter. But let's not muss up a nice thread now. :P

I really can't wait. They need to rerelease SaGa 2 and 3 while they're at it.

I just watched the trailer over at IGN and it looks interesting, unfortunately it is rendered.

I liked the minstrel walking throughout the world and the music was very nice.

How are the stories in these games? Are they underdeveloped due to the multiple characters?

I'll definitely pick this one up, I am also one of those people who don't mind Kawazu's games... he's got some great ideas, its just the implementation of them sometimes leaves something to be desired. SaGa Frontier 1 was *AWESOME* though, IMO. When you talk about re-releasing SaGa 2 and 3, do you mean the GB SaGa games or the Romancing SaGa ones? I know they remade the original SaGa (long one of my favorite original GB games) for WSC, surprised it never got ported over to GBA... would have loved to pick that up.

Fair enough. I just know I chuckled a little.

We talking RoSa or GBX SaGa? Cause I would do terrible things to have a remake of
Hihou Densetsu. SaGa 3 I never had the luxury of playing though. Maybe I should track that down one of these days.

Actually, I was referring to the Super Famicom SaGas... but now that you mention it, I'd kill for updates to the GB SaGa games (FFLegend in English). Oooo. Maybe on DS? Ooooooooo.

Kawazu rocks whole city blocks!

I didn't even consider DS. Damn though, that'd be fucking great. Very interesting things could happen there.
But I don't remember seeing any mentions of SaGa amongst either handheld's massive list mongering going on a while back. That's a shame.
Any word at all on other SaGa projects?

I imagine we'd see something like that announced whenever FFIII DS actually has some real media. After all, I'd hope Kawazu would be involved with something like that. DS would be nicely suited to some older SFC/GB remakes.

I really hope Kawazu puts his "touch" on that game... if only to see the regular FF/Squarebots cry out in anguish.

I don't - only because I think FF3 is one of the few perfectly balanced RPGs - it's totally challenging withotu being pointlessly unfair and random (okay, well there IS that last level without any savepoints). Wouldn't want to see anything more than a graphical update of that game. What they did with FF1 on GBA was awful... increased the random encounter rate sky high but made the actual game so easy.

Eh, but I already have so many copies of FF1, having one I could just blow through with various strange ass class combinations, or solo quests, or stupid stuff that would take me forever to even attempt in the original version makes me warm inside. Then again, I own FF1 about 5 times now so the changes were nice in some ways. But that's just me. FF2 fixes were welcomed though. Love that game.
Wait, so Kawazu is working on FFIII, or are you just being delightfully evil?

Yeah, Kawazu is working on FFIIIDS...

Well Vestal was saying that FFIII was pretty much never going to come out because Square can't get their act together. Which is a damn shame because it's the best FF game.

Looking forward to the english Romancing SaGa as well. Kawazu > Kitase!

I haven't played any games in this series. How is the story?

Loose at best, although I haven't played all of them. Some are more solid than others. SaGa 2 (Final Fantasy Legend 2) has a pretty good one for its age, I think.
