Router Question

I am wondering if there is anyway to get around the router so I can create games in Warcraft III. I already turned off the firewalls that I know of on my comp. But is there anyway to turn off the router's firewall or whatever it is that is doing this?

you must forward the ports warcraft III uses to the computer you itend to play warcraft III on. Easier way to do it is to put the computer you itend to play warcraft III in DMZ. These things can be done thru the router.

Go to the setup for your router and turn off the firewall. The address of your setup changes from manufacturer to manufactureer, but go to the website for your router and find out the address of your router, then change it.

That is if you want to turn off the Firewall. You can usually open gateways in it to keep the protection but let certain programs through.

Basically what these guys said.

DMZ your computer is visible to the entire internet, not really recommended.

It's probably better to use port forwarding. For Warcraft III you need to forward port 6112, this process varies by manufacturer and model.

For Linksys you simply look for port forwarding under the advanced tab and the help should be all you need to set it up.

For Belkin port forwarding is listed as virtual servers.

To find your IP address and the routers you'll need to open up a command prompt. Click start, run, type in cmd and hit enter. Then type in ipconfig. The default gateway is your router and the IP Address is your address on the lan.

To access the router setup just plop it's IP into your address bar, may need to check your manual for the default login. If it asks for a target address or some such that would be your computers own IP.

That should pretty much take care of it.

What router do you have?

I know Dlink is pretty good about providing instructions on their site on which ports to poke open for a large number of popular apps.

Yeah I have a D-Link. Thanks for the info. This is all really confusing though, wish I wasn't computer illterate :/

So I went to the site, and it has an option to let you enable Gaming Mode, but that was already on, but I rebooted anyway, and I still couldn't create a game in Frozen Throne that people could join :( Any other easy ideas???

go to virtual server under advanced options I think. type in the port you intend to forward and to wich ip(your computer).

Ok i got that all to work, now how can i get my brother's comp to allow it too, hes on the same router. I tried doing the same thing, but change his port to 6113, but it says "port range conflict with "warcraft3""
