RPG what should i buy?

Basically my old PS2 died a while ago and never got a replacement. Now i'm thinking of buying a new one and i'm looking for a good rpg to start playing. Now i'm mainly glaring at Wild Arms code F. Did they leave the original intro? Is it improved enough to play it over again? Besides WAcF what else is new and hot...what i've played somewhat recently....

Magna Carta
Dragon Quest VIII

i'm also gonna reserve Grandia 3 when i'm at the gamestore b/c i gotta keep up with one of my favorite series.

You could do a search and read one of the fifty billion other threads asking this same question.

Edit: Okay, on a more helpful note... I've been enjoying Wild Arms 4 somewhat; it's definitely better than its by-the-books definition-of-average predecessors. You got DQVIII, which is good, as that is the best PS2 RPG this year. I didn't really get into Romancing SaGa or Radiata Stories much, but I recognize that both are due a bit more of a chance from me.

The two Digital Devil Saga games are good. If you've got a Cube, grab Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. If you don't have a Cube, buy one and then buy Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

Romancing Saga is a weird game; it either clicks with you or it doesn't; it's definitely the kind of game where you get out of it what you put into it. I love it.

Definitely go DQ8 over Magna Carta.

Ugh, jRPGs. In the last four years, I've fallen out of love with them. Elder Scrolls and Bioware take up my time now.

That said, Radiata Stories sounds pretty interesting to me, actually.

That's my vote.

Also if you have a GameCrazy nearby they have a ton of PS2 RPG stuff on sale such as Digital Devil Saga and Culdcept.

Magna Carta is good if you're looking for a game driven by good characters. I find the story to be good as well, but it has strange pacing. The characters are great though. Gameplay is strategy-lite mixed with the ATB guage of Final Fantasy's past... somewhat interesting to say the least.

Radiata Stories is crap.
I've been cutting my gameplaying down to almost only RPGs and the variations there of. I've been enjoying myself greatly.
In recent memory, DQVIII was a great one, Alundra sucks, Suikoden IV shouldn't have lost 2 characters and WHAT IS UP WITH THE SAILING.

As far as PS2 stuff, I'd personally recommend the Digital Devil Sagas the most of the recent releases, but DQ VIII is fun too. I've heard basically nothing good about Magna Carta, honestly.

I haven't played Romancing Saga or Radiata Stories so I can't comment on those...

DQ8 is fantastic and DDS1 is pretty good too. I'd recommend giving Radiata Stories a try, it's really quite charming and certainly pretty unique. I'm so wrapped up in DQ8 currently that I haven't had as much time as I'd have liked with RS. The Shadow Hearts series is awesome, too.

Dark Cloud 2...

Ah, here we go, someone with some good taste.

I was mostly limiting my suggestions to stuff from this year, but if you want to go older, than Dark Cloud 2 (not 1) is a very good choice. So, too, are the Shadow Hearts series, Growlanser Generations (support Working Designs! Oh, shit, wait...), FFX (natch), Ys: The Ark of Napishtim, Suikoden III (especially since V is coming out soon).

Well, Dark Cloud 1 was pretty good too. But I usually don't recommend it to people. I tell them to go straight to the sequel (not direct).

GET OUT!

Please this game is freaking awesome and btw better than any zelda game to date

It's definitely a gem but doesn't approach Zelda save having puzzles that will actually stump you. ALTTP is still the king (Minish Cap is damn good as well). But just so we're clear: Alundra kicks ass. It just can't top the master ass-kicker.

On topic, I just got this off Ebay:

Figured I'd check to see what all the fuss is about. The plan is to smoke a fattie and see where this game takes me. :)

You will be pleased. That reminds me, I have to finish it... =/

Heh I have to finish pretty much every single game I own. I just picked up Skies Of Arcadia again recently (DC version) and just got the ability to fly above the clouds for my ship (eliminating random encounters) so I was happy to go back to it. I was shocked at how great my island is turning out as well--I have people there I didn't even know I had recruited!

If you haven't played Shadow Hearts 1 and Shadow Hearts: Covenant, you should definitely buy them. SH: C is BY FAR the best RPG this generation, in my humble opinion. Unbelievable charming characters.

Other recommendations:

Digital Devil Saga 1
Digital Devil Saga 2
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

This thread is not complete until we hear what Drinky Crow has to say about Magna Carta and its Gackt-ish characters.

DQ8, Fire Emblem (I just bought this), or put the money towards one of the many RPGs coming out in the next few months: Shadow Hearts FTNW, Suikoden V, Grandia III (which you mentioned), Metal Saga, Drakengard 2 (for ARPGs).

If you want to get Wild Arms 4, DQ8, or Fire Emblem, print out this coupon and take it to Best Buy with you for maximum CheapAssGamer quotient: http://www.ddrmaniax.net/angeltk/cag/bb10vg.pdf
