Ripping The Bandage Off

I figured would make a thread for this since it is officially one year ago today that we lost both shows to whatever evil Cartoon Network had in mind.

A place to kind of talk about the shows, see if anyone is picking up the GLTAS Blu-ray set on Tues.

Favorite moments. Etc

People always lump together Green Lantern TAS, Young Justice, Sym-Bionic Titan, and Tron Uprising, but I watched the first six or so Green Lantern episodes, and don't get the love.

Young Justice deserved better. Spectacular Spider-Man deserved better. Gargoyles deserved better.

Greg Weisman has terrible luck.

Was going to mention but my post was too sad already. I remember there was a segment on Conan about Young Justice before it came out and I thought "finally a show they won't cancel". So naive.

Young Justice is shit, While Green Lantern god tier.

If you sum up why you like GL:TAS i'll give it another shot. No lie.

While I never liked the second season as much as the first season of Young Justice, the over all story they told in the second season was fantastic. Still hurts it's gone.

The biggest reason I liked Young Justice was actually a really odd one....but I really loved the portrayal of Robin and how he would signal his arrival when facing evil by laughing mockingly.....just like another costumed crimefighter. Namely, The Shadow.

WHAT ARE THESE LIES

I just really didn't like the character that much. I found most of them to be boring or lame. The only character I like was Nigthwing and Grey Beetle. I also didn't like that the heroes were incompetent and kept on losing until like the last episode were they somehow won.

"The power of the crimson red,
Can lead your soul away from dread,
And heal the deepest wounds of hate.
Let no one else decide your fate."

:'(

GL: TAS 4 ever, yo.

That's a full series set for GL? Didn't know one was coming! Is a YJ one planned as well? Or Tron, Titan, Motorcity, etc for that matter? Maybe this can be a catch-all for all great animated stuff canceled too early...

It's not that the heroes were losing. It's that the grand scheme of an episode was rarely the true goal for the villains. It was handled better in Gargoyles, though.

Yeah didn't care any of the characters in YJ with the exception of Robin. Also hated how the light kept going at the end "everything went to plan" shtick. Wally died the lamest way too. smh

Wiseman went too far with his wisemanness and it seriously hurt the individual episodes.
The quality of the series was just not consistent at all. The payoffs were great, but that doesn't make up for all the bad episodes leading up to it.

Young Justice was awesome. I preferred the first season by far, though - I liked the tighter focus on a few characters rather than the largest scope they went for with Invasion. Probably my favorite portrayal of Robin ever. Captain Marvel was perfect, Lex Luthor was awesome, Zatanna, Doctor Fate... the list goes on.

It was really the first "DC Universe" show, and I really love it for that. JLU had that, too, but it never felt as huge as YJ's. It gave the impression that the show you're watching was just a tiny piece of this whole world.

However, I really did like Green Lantern better. It wasn't anywhere near as ambitious - it didn't have that huge, detailed, planned out, complex plot, the huge teams, the whole universe, but it didn't have a single bad episode, which Young Justice did. It was what Bruce Timm's always done best - episodic series, overarching plot, strong characters, GREAT voice direction, good animation. It really sold me on the concept of a CG action show (even though there hasn't been a really good one since).

I couldn't get into the second season of Young Justice. Didn't know who was who or what was going on. Stopped watching after 2 episodes.

Green Lantern was okay. The Razer and Aya romance was just silly and went overboard after the Red Lantern stuff was over.

For me personally, GL:TAS feels a bit like Arrow - rough start, got much better towards the end of the first season, had a killer second season.

I have to be honest

Young Justice is great but I didnt like the direction they took with season 2 or the leaks about season 3.

Liked Young Justice more when it was about the small team fighting crime and dealing with things like school.

Josh Keaton has joined the ranks of Kevin Conroy, Susan Eisenberg, and Tim Daly as "voice I hear whenever I read his DC character." Dude is Hal Jordan for me.

He's also Spider-Man, which means I can't read GL and SM comics back to back. I get confused.

I didn't see much of Green Lantern, it was pretty sporadic viewing. My girlfriend saw it on Netflix and knew a friend loved it. By the end she was super attached to the characters and was super upset it was cancelled. Seemed good though.

Young Justice however was a far more painful cancellation to me. I loved both seasons. Favorite moments? I loved the final moment in the episode 'Secrets'... such a dark, twisted moment, perfect for a halloween episode. Each character's "therapy session" with Black Canary after the training mission went bad, especially Dick's line "I don't want to be the Batman anymore..." Robin and Artemis running for their lives from Red Tornado's "siblings". Roy's "intervention". Aqualad being a total monster in season 2, only to have the whole plan backfire once he faced Miss Martian. I can't believe how good of a Robin Jesse Mccartney was. All the voice cast did a great job though. Nolan North as Superboy/Superman, Danica Mckellar as Miss Martian, Crispin Freeman as Red Arrow... just fantastic work all-round.

Fuck, what a show. Greg Weisman continued to create a show around kid characters that managed to not be totally annoying like kid characters are, and instead were all awesome and compelling in their own right. The action was exceptional too. A lot of the staging and choreography is a major inspiration for the work I'm doing boarding another show right now.

Have no idea for any of those, GLTAS seems to be releasing with no fanfare as it was only announced like a week and a half ago for release on Tuesday.

I can see the problem with YJ season 2.
It tried to be like JLU (a focus on an expanded roster), but we weren't nearly as invested in the new teen sidekicks. Especially since it meant that most of the major players were benched way too long

Roger, seems to be the MO of late. Reminds me I still need to watch JLA Adventures...

Regardless, appreciate you posting this thread as it got me to order the blus.

I didn't understand it at first either but it starts to really click 4 or 5 episodes in. By the end of the season I was sad there wasn't going to be any more. I still don't think it's in the same league as YJ though.

Young justice season 1 was god tier. S2, kinda lost me at first with all of the change, but I came around on it. Although some things still irk me about it.

Green lantern was also solid. And Im more mad about the somewhat cliffhanger with aya than I am with Young Justice's ending.

I liked the expanded roster of YJ season 2, giving us a chance to learn about other DC properties that might not be all that popular. Also loved how the Light was always just one step ahead. Ugh season 3 sounded like it would've been great with Darkseid. Ugh, I'm gonna go cry in a corner as all the cool DC shows are replaced by crap like Teen Titans Go.

I think Justice League did it better, both timing wise and incorporating the original team into the mix.

I like season 2, but the fact that Roy and Artemis were out of the business for a good part of the season. Aqualad had turned evil. Zatanna was on the League proper... it just felt like was putting the team aside. Instead of building on their dynamics with other characters

Young justice season 1 had quite a few dumb written moments through the season(dr fate helmet eps 3 of them, the light always win when they clearly just lost, any of team teen drama, anything to do with superboy) so I could never care for show.

But Season 2 was a completely different show, a lot more clever, ambitions, complex and better executed so when I see post about how someone thought simple plot season 1 was better it really drives home how we can't have nice thanks and why guys like jeph lobb are put in high positions.

Green Lantern gets going a bit later, the fun thing about is that close to every episode, even when it does not seem like it now has relevance later.

Just as a head's up

Season 1 of Young Justice and all of Green Lantern has been added to Netflix!

Been rewatching Young Justice the last few days,
God the first season was so good, I just don't understand how they screwed it up with sooooo badly with season 2.

S2 is like it was made by a different weaker team trying to emulate the original along with an F team shoehorning all these other uneeded characters in(that got zero screentime or development).
