I guess I'll root for France out of principle, I don't even know how good the team is.
I don't care if we win the tournament, as long as we beat New Zealand. :p

England for me , failing that I hope Wales win,

And as my wife is French I will be cheering France on during thier matches, unless England V France then it's England

I believe The Brumbies alone should have an OT! :p

Anyway I'm still a little concerned by the Wallaby selections, apart from hooker, the tight 5 is lacking and Cooper is still there. On his day Cooper is the best fly in the world, unfortunately he's only had a handful of those days and they were probably Tuesdays anyway.

Obviously going for a NZ repeat. Feeling confident, but not cocky. We've gotta lot of work to do.
A QF against France or Ireland seems likely, and such a big hurdle given the occasion.

I'm actually reasonably confident about our chances. Best Scotland squad we've had for at least 10 years, quite possibly more.

First contact with Rugby was arriving in New Zealand overtired after an 18 hour journey and being forced by my host family to watch All Blacks vs. Springboks for some tri nations game.

So yeah put be down for the All Blacks...
The perfect welcome to our country.

$200 to stream the Rugby World Cup in the US. Get bent NBC.

Oh lord. Fuck that!

Good thing there are bars here who sponsor local amateur and collegiate rugby teams - so they cater to rugby fans by purchasing whichever streams are available. I am very grateful as I love drinking and watching fixtures at the same time. And all my money goes towards alcohol/food/tipping.

Any players from the Pacific Islands we should be watching out for? Those that aren't already playing for the ABs. #TopBantz.

Seriously though I remember Ngenya's try vs. South Africa in 2007. Such a great moment. Love seeing lesser known teams and players shine.

For Fiji on Friday, both Nadolo and Nayacalevu are immsense players (in all senses) on the wings.

If you want to kill five minutes watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXkYNblaz8s

South Africa named their team for their first match against Japan on Saturday today

From my point of view, good to see a Leinster man (Zane Kirchner) in the 15. The guy hasn't really been consistent for us over the past 2 seasons but over on some days (Pro12 final a year ago) he's been amazing. Any SA Gaf know why Le Roux hasn't been included?

Curious to hear, what are your thoughts on Schalk Brits? Always been amazing for us at Saracens, shame he's never really been given a chance.

I dunno honestly, he's in the extended 31 man squad. I guess having his two rivals at Hooker Du Plessis and Strauss just off their season in the Super 14 and Brits just through preseason obviously doesn't help.

I agree though. I only really get to watch Saracens when they're in the Champions Cup but when I've seen him play he's been awesome. I'd say he'll get a chance to play against one of the minnows to impress though.

Hope we put up a decent fight against you guys, your squad looks pretty good. Definitely should be pushing to win it.

Yeah you're Scotland right? I think yous will get to the QF's. Cotter is a top class coach (yous are lucky to have him) and I think you'll be a lot more consistent then under Robinson for sure anyway. Of the second seeds that were able to be grouped with, Samoa are definitely the best and you'll give South Africa a close match anyway.

Also OP, someone linked me this graphic "Rugby 101". http://www.thedeskofmatthew.com/rugby101/
Might be useful to have in the OP for GAF posters who might come in once the tournament is up and running.

Scotland yeah, I'm so pleased we were able to get Cotter to come and manage us, superb coach. Samoa was a real piece of luck, will be a hard match but if we execute properly we should win and hopefully will make a game of it against you. Good luck to your guys.

I'm really hoping for Fiji to inflict some injuries on England ahead of the Wales games just to even the odds a little bit. I know it's bad to wish injury on anyone, but the amount of injuries in the Welsh camp has to make England the favourite going into that game.

C'Mon Ireland!!! I'm so ready for this. Even warned work that I'll be wearing my jersey every match day, meetings or not.

Also have a huge soft spot for Japan and Georgia. They work so hard.

Looking forward to all games, but not SA, I hate watching them play sooooo much.

pencil me in for the springboks I guess even though I cant stand meyer and his tactics and selections. Zane was pretty steady against Argentina did everything right, le Roux is seen as shaky and error prone on defense. I have a pool at the office on what Jean de Villiers will be injuring on Saturday that will put him out of the rest of the world cup.

32 out of total of 1133.

Oh sure, I'm not saying that all of them are or anything. Just that some of their great back line players of recent years (Rokocoko, Sivivatu etc.) were born in the islands. I wasn't trying to imply anything beyond that. My apologies.

What do you mean? There's a pretty long history of New Zealand players born and bred in the Pacific Islands.

It's based on the idea that New Zealand is a white country (something a lot of Brits seem to be convinced of) when in reality, a) NZ is a diverse country and b) Auckland is the largest Pacific Island city on the planet, there's more Samoans, Tongans and Fijians living there than in their capitals. So no, Joe Rokocoko moving to New Zealand at the age of 5 isn't fucking poaching and the only reason anyone brings it up is because of his skin colour.

That's not to say there isn't some poaching going on, Sivivatu and Fekitoa did come over on rugby scholarships, but that stuff is done entirely by high schools, who spend a shitload of money on their rugby programs. Those players then enter the NZ rugby system with everyone else and have to make their way to the top (from club rugby to ITM Cup/NPC to Super 15 and THEN the ABs).

You want to talk about poaching though? How about that Irish program that was deliberately created to poach players from other countries? Nathan White played for Waikato for 10 years but suddenly became Irish at the age of 32.

Sorry mate, wasn't trying to be aggressive, didn't get what you meant.

No problem. It's your media that I get pissed off with because they should know better. Yet there doesn't seem to be any attempt to educate themselves, not when they can shit out a couple of click bait articles.

I know what you mean. Our media can hardly talk either, what with the English team doing the same and Scotland becoming South Africa B :p

Predictions:
A: Wallabies, England.
B: Springboks, Samoa (Hopefully)
C: All Blacks, Los Pumas.
D: Ireland, France.

A and B are the only competitive pools, C and D will just be the tier 1 teams attempting to avoid injuries to key players.

Time to start getting excited. I travel from the Caribbean to England in two week's time to go to two matches. This is how I spend my holiday, and how better? Also setting up an office World Cup Pool out here today, although 70% of my coworkers have no idea what rugby is, lol, as it's hardly big among Caribbean people.

Anyway, put me down as an Irish fan in the OP. I'll be at the Ireland v Italy and Ireland v France games. Worried about our backline in a major way. Not sure if we have any penetration from the centres, Bowe is apparently out of form, tons of missed tackles in the warm-up games, and everything resting on Johnny Sexton staying fully fit or we'll fall apart... I just think we maybe peaked about a year ago, you know?

But you can still dream, of course. We've got an outside shot. Now I'm just thinking about if Ireland were to win it all... I've got to say it would be heartbreaking to be living abroad when it happened, damn. The parties would be immense.

Anyway, predictions:
A: England, Australia
B: South Africa, Scotland
C: New Zealand; Argentina
D: France, Ireland

QFs: England beat Scotland; South Africa beat Australia; New Zealand beat Scotland; Argentina beat France
SFs: New Zealand beat South Africa; England beat Argentina
F: New Zealand beat England

I think the loss of Halfpenny is heartbreaking to the Welsh. If they get out of the group given that it would be an amazing achievement. Just a silly, bastard hard group. I'd love to see Samoa do Scotland but I have to go with the boring pick that I actually believe in. As for NZ, they are obviously the most talented team, but pressure has done for them in the past. The thing is, winning on home soil was the greatest pressure many of them will ever know (remember that fucking horrible WC final?) - now that pressure valve has been released. I think they'll be fairly free to play their game, at which point they become near-impossible to beat. That's why they're my pick when they haven't been in world cups past. On the other hand, I think I'm like 1 for 5 in predicting WC winners so NZ watch out, lol.

A and B are the only competitive pools, C and D will just be the tier 1 teams attempting to avoid injuries to key players.

After previous WC experiences there's no way I'll be taking the Italy match for granted as an Irishman. They'll have a real chance of beating us and getting through. Not exactly likely, but far from David v Goliath stuff either.

Ridiculous. Hire a fucking babysitter or some shit. A massively loud stadium is no place for a baby. If I was sitting next to one I'd be pissed off.
