RV There Yet - The next indie meme game on Steam.

Here's the next indie game on Steam doing numbers.
It's a physics based co-op game similar to Peak, where you drive an RV across country. Developed by Swedish Nuggets Entertainment. The game released four days ago and started trending. Currently the #3 highest grossing game on Steam and peaking at 63,476 [it's still climbing and will climb when I hit 'Post thread'} players, they even got the current Steam store hero.
With that low 7 eurodollar price they're pushing a lot of copies.

Where do people find other people to play these kind of games on Steam? Do have to follow a big streamer or something?

I think Griffon's "friend-slop" describes it well. Someone buys a copy, gifts to a friend or two and the ball starts rolling. Same happened with Helldivers 2, more than half my friend's list played it.
Games have discord where you can find others to play with too I guess and sometimes people search for co-op partners on the Steam forums.

I'd be interested in the whole economics around it. Like how many hours of work did the dev put into it, how long did it take, and what does his revenue look like? Fascinating stuff.
Yes. The developer, Nuggets Entertainment is working on a farming sim called Among the Wild. I wonder if they saw the success of indie friend-slop like Peak & R.E.P.O, dropped everything and threw this together in record time.

They sold the cool mil too.

I do appreciate how in every scene at least one person has a cigarette in their mouth, no matter what. Very real flashbacks. Among the Wild looks fun. Wishlisted.

They posted an update on YT a month ago when they talked about an upcoming game. TLDR: They paused development of Among the Wild after the Swedish 5 week vacation, held an internal game jam and developed RV There Yet? The video is a month old, so they did it in about 1-2 months tops. Peak for example was developed in a four week gamejam between a Swedish & American company, so it was probably the model they followed.

Now they have a hit on their hand and funding to develop Among the Wild.

Zero self-respect involved, from the creators right on down to the players.
It's all so tiresome.

Why?
These games are often really fun.
And they actually offer unique emergent gameplay with fun physics based chaos.

What's tiresome is yet another generic AAA multiplayer game with a beautiful but completely static world, designed around completing repetitive content to get color coded loot.

The game is lousy...

Everything clips, the physics implementation is god awful. You can run straight up vertical walls. Inventory system or lack thereof is a mess. Proximity chat is pointless.

It really is just streamer bait slop and there is 0 challenge to the gameplay as well, just use your winch, 90% of problems solved
