Saber Interactive CEO says Saints Row had to die because the games were too expensive

Man I still remember downloading the original Saints Row demo on the Xbox 360. It was a time people were real thirsty for the next GTA. Other than that, never been into them. Later ones looked daft and even though I got some for free I never bothered to play them.

Nah the later ones are crazy dumb fun. Even the last one had potential, the opening is dumb and fun but then you meet the rest of the cast.

Such bullshit. Revisionist history doesn't even begin to describe it. They knew exactly what they were making, and exactly who it was aimed at. They were even smug little shits about it whenever confronted on the fact that no one asked for, or wanted, this change for the series. The games weren't too expensive, they just made the wrong choices and paid for it. Now they don't exist...good riddance!

Bad example, that became beloved AFTER it was already considered a sales failure and the studio was time on a mmorpg version before being shut down.

Though Square Enix is largely to blame a lot of "gamers" at the time wrote the game off for being a "GTA Clone" and saying it looked cheap, etc.
Sure, but that scope and quality if put through a Saints Row lens would have made a game that people would have bought via word of mouth. I bet LTD Sleeping Dogs did great. Just not in the window Squeenix was expecting/hoping. The point is, it's completely possible to make a solid AAA game with half the budget these kids are blowing.

All they had to do was go back to the formula of Saints Row 2, but nope.

It's still insane they took the small but dedicated following the series had and didn't realize it's the last audience you want to tell fuck off, surprise surprise no one else was going to support them.

"They didn't know what they were building. They didn't have any real direction. It couldn't last"

No shits, the characters in the 2022 game surely look like the one that would have been bullied by the OG characters.

This is such a pure example of the swagger culture used to have only to be replaced by the watered down, lame bullshit of today, what the actual hell happened to society?

The studio told the fans of the series to fuck off and didn't find any "modern audience" to buy their game. Its closure is actually a good example of the world healing.
Yuuuuuup, this is when they essentially killed off their fanbase, even the ones that were willing to give the new game a chance. They're a great example of how you shouldn't turn your back to your fans and fanbase. The whole too expensive thing is just a huge excuse, lol.

I'm honestly impressed in a way. They built a specific dedicated fanbase only to tell them to buzz off and imply they weren't wanted. That's the last thing you want to do as a business. Talk about hubris. Its something many current day game development employees could learn a thing or two from.

These asshat bean counters and idpol numbskull dimwitts are to blame. Modern Audiences means less sales when you shit on an existing fanbase.

Whoever greenlit turning Gen X/Millennial? characters that belonged to a street gang into gay reddit/Reset Era sjws needs to be shit canned, now!

Seriously whoever thought that was cool and people would relate lives in a fucking bubble.

What is crazy is these fools are all for diversity and idpol, but the origianl cast was way more diverse. Only to these fools minds diversity just means fuck striaght and white folks, they get excluded.

?Islander- gay?, LatinX :p - gay?, black, Latina-gay?

Seems like a bunch of gay/bi? girly men and a lesbian latina. Not very diverse, and not very hardened gang like. Compare to the originals:

Way more diverse, black, whte, asian, latino (no "X), some hot and some badass. You want to play as them.

You don't want to play as lecturing woke feminist who applied to UCLA and now owes 300k in debt (their choice) .

As soon as I seen the modern audience change this game, a game that I have played every version of , went off my wish list, immediately.
