OKYO--Sega released the first details today on Sakura Taisen 5: Saraba Itoshiki Hito Yo for the PlayStation 2. Among the details revealed for the latest game in the venerable series are a new main character and the identities of four the game's five heroines. Sakura Taisen 5: Saraba Itoshiki Hito Yo is scheduled for a summer 2005 release for PlayStation 2 in Japan.

While previous installments in the Sakura Taisen series took place in Japan and Paris, Sakura Taisen 5 will take place in New York during 1927. A new young Japanese navy lieutenant named Shinjirou Taiga has taken over Lieutenant Oogami Ichirou's role as the main character. Like previous installments in the Sakura Taisen series, Sakura Taisen 5 will feature a team of five heroines, although one of the character's identities has yet to be revealed. Also a series tradition, the heroines and the main character will fight against monsters by riding on giant mechs.

Besides cow girl Gemini Sunrise, who is the main character in Sega's upcoming action game Sakura Taisen V Episode 0: Arano no Samurai Murasume, the heroines in Sakura Taisen 5 will all be new characters. The remaining four characters are: Sagitta Weinberg, a 21-year old lawyer from Harlem; Ricaritta Aries, a small Mexican girl with pigtails; Diana Caprice, a 19-year old medical student at Boston University; and Subaru Kujo, a Japanese youth whose age and sex is unknown.

The game is currently 30 percent complete, and is scheduled to be exhibited at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. A preview disk of Sakura Taisen 5 will be included in Sakura Taisen V Episode 0: Arano no Samurai Murasume, which is slated for release on September 22 in Japan at the retail price of 7,140 yen ($65).

Thanks for the heads-up.

Ogami isn't leading anymore? wtf? I thought the story ended with him going to New Nork.

You didn't play 4? Did you? o_O Then again I can't recall how often you were around #sakutai...

edit: and I guess Rachette must have been demoted or something due to her actions in the movie. o_O Maybe she'll be a villian now!

No I played 4, just once and a year+ ago though. I'm fuzzy on it.

I know Ogami got promoted but I thought he was shipped out to NY as well.

Mmm, he did get promoted... which was actually him taking over for Yoneda, so I imagine that still leaves him in Teito with the girls and so. I wouldn't be surprised to see them mix up some Teito/Paris cameos in some of the eps for 5 however..

After how much ST3 was basically ST1&2 featuring 3's Cast (in terms of story content at least) I wouldn't doubt wild cameo action for a second.

So, yeah I guess he does stay put. But I swear there was a (traditional) pic of him deboarding a train in the US... was it Ep5 or Ep0? Well, I donno now. wtf happened to Rachette is a good question, too.

Will this be the one that finally makes it to our shores?
Actually it seems like none of them will.

The automated response didn't answer my question. The next two Sakura Taisen games will feature the United States as their setting. I think this would be the perfect opportunity to give the series a chance in the US market. Does Sega of America have plans to localize "Sakura Taisen V Episode 0" or "Sakura Taisen V" in the US?

... where's my Rachette Altaire?

I got Sakura Taisen 1 & 2 sitting right here, in box, cost me about 1000 yen total for both, but I'm not sure why I bought them. Maybe I should pop them in some day, haha.

at one time Working Design siad they were going to Pick up Sakura wars 1 for the saturn but then changed thier mind. This is the one time i wsh victor Ireland would Pick up Sakura Wars for the PS2, the license can't cost that much to buy form Sega. I think it would do Just as good as Growlanser Generations, plus the games are in 3d so Sony wouldn't stop them. I really wanted to play the Sakura War games in English. :(

Sega will never allow WD to butcher Sakura Wars

You want a butcher job, wait till you hear the voices in SW when Sega finnaly brings it over. That'll outtweigh anything WD would've done. No Sega game has ever had good voice acting.

Panzer Dragoon Saga

(yes, I know)

Panzer Dragoon Orta was like that too. Even though the characters were speaking a language made up for the franchise, their meaning and sentiment was expressed just as convincingly as if their speech was coherent.

Too bad, as I understand Episode 0 was made specifically with the intention of trying to introduce the franchise to western audiences (Red even showed off an english Sakura Taisen logo back in 2002). I still think we might get it though, a Sega of America PR response isn't the final authority on these sorts of things.
