Sakura Wars 2 translation is out now

Sure Sakura Wars might not be a franchise or genre for EVERYONE but for the people that love it this will certainly come as good news if you didn't know yet. Or if you've never played a VN and want a pretty wild and weird one it's got you covered

Suddenly in 2024/2025 english translations for Sega Saturn are just absolutely blowing up. Same with Dreamcast. Sega is apparently cool again

Curious who's ever played any Sakura Wars games here?

Here's my Sakura collection love the series and its such a shame Bernie had to piss off Working Designs too. I bet they would have brought over the Saturn and DC titles over to the West. So its nice to get the Saturn titles translated, hopefully the DC ones will be next

BTW, I see you've made in this month's Retro Gamer collectors corner :)

Well, I couldn't understand what was happening, but got them because I felt they looked to push the Saturn or DC either in sound chip music, FMV and in the DC case for some of the best graphics on the system
The PS4 reboot doesn't get enough credit either

This brings me so much nostalgia but not because of the games, I wasn't aware it had games until much later, but because of the anime they aired in early 2000s in latinamerica

Huge fan of the series. Too bad the Saturn, DC and (some) PS2 games were never localized, it's a field day for Fire Emblem and Xenogears fans, especially.

I made a FAQ for Sakura Taisen 1 so long ago I listed my AOL address for contact info lol... So great to see these games get translated. Criminal Sega has let them languish in today's digital world. Gonna have to give 2 a playthrough in English! Haven't played them since original release.

Yeah, just saw this yesterday. Both the first Sakura Wars and this sequel are great games. Arcana Strikes also got an english fan localization last month; It's a unique JRPG - Card Battle hybrid of high quality.

This is why the Sega Saturn is a favorite of mine, and probably my favorite video game console ever. It's a holy grail both in the retro gaming community and the retro collector's community, given the continued accruement of value for its original video games. It's a unique bubble of 90s Japan that will never be replicated.

There is still so much more to be fan localized. Wachenröder, Terra Phantastica and Tengai Makyō: Daiyon no Mokushiroku are particulary a trinity of brillant JRPGs exclusive on the machine that i am eagerly awaiting for.

Saturn's library is criminally underrated, too bad so many awesome games were either Japan-only, very late into it's lifetime or overlooked in a time most anime-themed games were very niche and out of the mainstream spotlight in the west.

Is now everything translated from Sakura Taisen?

I wish someone translated old Atelier games.
1: Fan TL patch
2: Fan TL patch
3: There was a translated script on GameFAQs. A fan TL patch has been in the works for a bit.
4: There was a translated script on GameFAQs for this one as well but I'm not aware of a patch being made.
V Episode 0: Videos with a translation overlayed. No patch.
V: Official release
SST: Official release

I guess it depends on what you consider translated.

I played the PS4 reboot, didn't finish it yet, it's a bit clunky, the combat isn't the best, but the main theme is great as always

I was very disappointed with that reboot. They had like 3 different scene qualities.

Animated + voice, stood around + voice, stood around text only.

For this sort of game everything should have been at least stood around + voice and all main character interactions should have been animated, the girls are the whole point of the game.

A reboot was the chance they had to push this into the west, but the quality was so low level it just felt cheap, I heard it didn't do very well, I can see why... that new combat system was uhhhhh... they should of used something like Valkeyria Chronicles, not that basic warriors shit.

Yeah my main complaint is that they just stop talking all of a sudden, and I wanted to play the game to improve my japanese

Aren't the PS2 games translated ?

There are no PS2 games of these two. One's a reboot of the original with no translation, the sequel got ported on PSP with no translation. IIRC they also got ports on ancient versions of Windows that don't function these days, and there's a Dreamcast port i believe. None of these have any translations.

They were developed for the Sega Saturn anyway as a base and they're the only ones to get fan localization patches.

I love seeing people finally recognize the greatness that is the SEGA Saturn. There just isn't a cooler collection of games you can only play in one place, IMO.

The worst part of this franchise is that the anime sucks (at least the first one), the concept is pretty good and original, the execution is terrible
