Salt and coldsores

So a few days ago I posted a thread asking for medical advice. I had bitten my lip and the cut had become infected. People posted a lot of advice that was very helpful for allieviating pain, but after a few days I noticed that the infection wasn't getting better at all so I decided to take a visit to the doctor. Only problem was that I was in some hotel in Memphis for the Conference USA basketball tournament where I was playing in the DePaul pepband (not for free, 50 bucks a game plus 25 for food) and I didn't know where a doctor was. Luckily for me some cheerleader was really sick with the flu and had ordered a cab to take her to a local hospital (I guess I could've done the same thing but I don't have that type of initiative) so I asked if I could split the fare with her. About an hour after arriving at the ER, I was seen by a doctor. She told me that the infection on my lip was actually a coldsore and she wrote me a prescription for some topical steroid. She also told me that putting salt on the coldsore would help "dry it out" and would make it heal faster. Later that day I took the doc up on her advice and dumped a package of salt onto the cold sore. It was, to put it simply, the most painful experience I've ever had. After a few seconds, it felt like the skin on my jaw was slowly being burned off and my teeth were being pulled out of my gums. But it worked really well.
So here's my advice. If you have a coldsore, just pour some salt on the coldsore and bite down on a leather strap.

Step 1) Mix 1 part iodine, sea salt, and hot water in a cup.

Step 2) Use an eye dropper to apply the solution to the affected area.

Step 3) Once you scrape yourself off of the ceiling, you should be fine.

Yeah, I'm doing that as I type. I don't feel like as much of a badass, though.

Maybe you should stop making out with dirty sluts, too, you cold-sore having manwhore.

Seriously though, when you have coldsores, gargle warm salt water. Just man up to it.

Why gargle?

gargle is being used as a generic word for putting salt water in your mouth and swishing it around the affected area.
Oh, ok. I was wondering what gargling, as in the back of the throat noise making would do.

Does this thing work for canker sores? I've got one and it's a bitch :/

aren't canker sores the same thing as cold sores? Just infected cuts in your mouth?

No, a cold sore is a sore that you get from the herpes virus. The cut just made me have an outbreak. I'm not really sure what a canker sore is, but its not related to herpes

So thought to be simular but are really different
The immediate cause of mouth ulcers is unknown, but factors that appear to provoke them include stress and illness, damage from rough teeth, and deficiencies in vitamin B12 and folic acid. A common urban myth is that mouth ulcers are directly connected to the onset of the Herpes simplex virus, but in reality ulcers associated with herpes are of an entirely different nature from mouth ulcers.

wait, so salt doesn't help canker sores?

FUCK. I just had my girlfriend put a bunch of salt on her canker sore, and now she's in a lot of pain. I'll be damned if I'm going to tell her what a fuckup I am, though.
