So a few days ago I posted a thread asking for medical advice. I had bitten my lip and the cut had become infected. People posted a lot of advice that was very helpful for allieviating pain, but after a few days I noticed that the infection wasn't getting better at all so I decided to take a visit to the doctor. Only problem was that I was in some hotel in Memphis for the Conference USA basketball tournament where I was playing in the DePaul pepband (not for free, 50 bucks a game plus 25 for food) and I didn't know where a doctor was. Luckily for me some cheerleader was really sick with the flu and had ordered a cab to take her to a local hospital (I guess I could've done the same thing but I don't have that type of initiative) so I asked if I could split the fare with her. About an hour after arriving at the ER, I was seen by a doctor. She told me that the infection on my lip was actually a coldsore and she wrote me a prescription for some topical steroid. She also told me that putting salt on the coldsore would help "dry it out" and would make it heal faster. Later that day I took the doc up on her advice and dumped a package of salt onto the cold sore. It was, to put it simply, the most painful experience I've ever had. After a few seconds, it felt like the skin on my jaw was slowly being burned off and my teeth were being pulled out of my gums. But it worked really well.
So here's my advice. If you have a coldsore, just pour some salt on the coldsore and bite down on a leather strap.
