While LucasArts may have underestimated the Sam & Max following, in an interview over at GamaSutra, Purcell -- who now works at Pixar -- reveals that the rights to the characters are back in his hands. Even better, he may do something with them.

"Would I get back into games? Sure," Purcell said. "The [Sam & Max] license is back in my hands now so we'll see what happens in the near future."

Actually the timing is perfect. I expect to see Pixar trying to diversify themselves in an effort to step away from the Disney image to a certain extent. Sam & Max would make brilliant canidates.

Everything coming in the next few years from Walt Disney Feature Animation and Dreamworks Animation is essentially a remake of Shrek. Pixar producing an animated movie heavy on over the top humor would make it more like Disney, not less.

I dunno, it's been a while since we've had a Sam and Max show on TV or a video game.... given Pixar's propensity with their animators I think Sam and Max would look weird if it had the same 3d modeling as their previous films.

I'd expect it to look different. Other than that a Sam and Max Pixar movie would be awesome.

They would have to change their style a bit to make it fit the Sam & Max style better but I think they could do it.

Check out this trailer from Sam & Max: Freelance Police. Now, if Pixar can do something like that, it will be a brilliant success. I hadn't seen this trailer in ages. It gets me laughing so hard every time. Damn, give me more Sam & Max. :'(

None of their films look exactly the same, besides both entries in the Toy Story franchise. All have a distinct and unique look.
