Tired of bad news about hardware? Don't worry, there's more!
Transcend has reportedly issued an internal company notice, shared by @jukan05 on X, indicating that they have recently received a notice from their NAND Flash suppliers, Samsung and Sandisk, about postponed shipments. According to the letter, Transcend has not received a NAND Flash shipment since October, significantly affecting its product availability. Due to the widespread NAND flash shortage impacting the industry, Samsung and Sandisk were unable to supply sufficient NAND chips to storage product manufacturers, affecting both their revenue streams and customer commitments.
The situation worsened in Q4 due to increased demand from large data centers and hyperscalers driven by major cloud service providers' expansion plans. All major chip manufacturers are prioritizing supply for these customers, which has led to price increases and extremely limited availability. Just last week alone, we were notified that costs had risen by 50-100%. The price-up trend continues at a very rapid pace and at an abnormal rate.
Sandisk raised its NAND Flash contract prices by 50% in November to align with supply and demand dynamics. This announcement prompted several module manufacturers to pause deliveries as they reassess pricing and customer commitments. Industry leaders such as Transcend, Innodisk, and Apacer Technology are among those who have temporarily halted shipments.
SourceTranscend anticipates that this situation will persist for another three to five months before any relief occurs.
