I saw this gem of a flick at a friends house the other night & was pleasantly surprised & totally shocked. What starts out as a quirky sci-fi romp, quickly dissolves into a horrid, gut wretching psychological-thriller, with a twisted black sense of humour & eccentric, yet totally loveable characters at its heart.

This movie defies any sort of categorization, it's a smorgasbord of genres, its like the X-Files meets Oldboy, meets Se7en, meets Signs, meets Bad Taste, directed all by. Miike Takashi, Chan-wook Park, Michael Mann, Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Peter Jackson.
The film is beautifully shot, with a dingy subterranean, green & blue tint as the focus throughout the film, aided by some very imaginative & slick visual effects.

The acting is equally as impressive, with the actors effortlessly accounting for the films continously fluctuating shifts between tones. You might recognize the superb Shin Ha-Kyun as the films lead, from JSA, Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance & other Korean films.

This is the third completely mind blowing & totally mesmerizing Korean flick, that I've seen in the last 6 months. I don't know what's going on over there, but I want more and I strongly urge to see this film, you will not be dissapointed.

And the other two were?

Have you seen My sassy girl? Another Korean movie, kind of romantic comedy, but asian style.

Man, there are simply too many great Korean films coming out these days. Is there a good source to keep track of all of this?

This one was... interesting. I liked it but it kinda left a weird feeling with me; not necessarily a sick feeling but just a weird one.

Silmido is pretty good, but compared to the other biggie Korean movie of the last year, Taegukgi, it definitely doesn't seem as well done.

It has a pretty active forum too.

My Sassy Girl is an excellent, charming film :) Why can't women like that exist in reali life? *_*

There could be some women out there just like her. The question is, would you really want her getting wasted and beating the shit out of you constantly?

Of course if she looks anything like Jeon Ji-hyun, sign my ass up! :D

Check out Memories of a Murder, excellent 'seven' type movie. In a totally other genre, Fighter in the Wind is an interesting realistic martial art movie about Choi Bae-dal, a korean martial art artist who defeated over 300 masters in his lifespan. I have no idea how faithful the movie is to the story of the real guy, but I thought it was really entertaining, and the fighting scene were pretty realistic.

Any woman who acts and looks like that, even when drunk, can beat my ass any day -- and I'll learn to love it. :D

I've heard some really good things about Spider Forest, anyone seen it? I remember the AICN/CHUD crews giving it heaps of props earlier in the year.

Sorry, "Resurrection of the Little Match Girl" was a train-wreck. The plot was entirely convoluted, the action was kinda boring, and the acting and dialogue were really bad.

My friend liked it, saying something about the deeper, intuitive meaning, blah blah blah. I didn't buy it; to me, it's like the Matrix sequels: Self-masturbatory quasi-philosphical waxing.

If you want to see some more philosophical Korean movies, see "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring again," "Why has Bodhi-Dharma left for the East?" and to a smaller extent, the animated film "Oseam."

Damn, only half way through, this movie isn't at all what I expected...

It's a pretty sick show about a schizophrenic or some similarly mentally ill person torturing his boss/some boss.

It's also very true and disturbing how the guy takes anything and turns it into 'evidence' supporting his theory that the guy's an alien.

Finished watching the movie...

strange movie... really strange.

I don't know if that twist was necessary; movie could've worked on 2 different levels with and without the crazy ending... I guess that's what's brilliant about it.

Must not post in this thread, must hold back, AAAAARGH *runs away while waving his arms up in the air*

Distant shouts: Save The Green Planet rocks! Nowhere To Hide, Old Boy, Barking Dogs Never Bit, Attack The Gas Station and Kick The Moon too.
