Lisa Edelstein's dad touched my private parts. True fact.
Pretty damn good in concert--they take a few chances here and there and it works. We were having a total drunken blast, dancing, bobbing, but indie kids are a fucking bore. Nobody was kicking it like a few of us up top.

Also, they played only one new song and a bunch of really old songs that you can only find on vinyl. I'd been told we'd hear a lot of new songs, but I have a feeling whoever told me that just didn't know the vinyl-only shins tracks.

I was in my fucking ecstacy when they played When I Goosestep.

Awesome stuff. Late.

I don't know if they suck, but they're definitely not what people make them out to be. Pretty standard indie fare, IMO.

I watched a performance of theirs on Austin City Limits and was pretty much bored to tears. Talk about a boring set.

The Shins albums do sound bland on first spin, but once you've given them a fair listen, the melodies of each song begin to distinguish themselves from one another. It's the same with almost all good pop music though; I mean, I don't see how someone could like a classic pop record like Pet Sounds and not like the Shins once they've allowed the songs enough time to grow on them. But whatever, you guys are free to like what you want--I just don't see the point of trolling this thread, but it's your time.

Comparing Pet Sounds to The Shins is an insult, and I guarantee that the comparison made me cry a little.
I care. I really do. No honestly, I'm going to cut my wrists right now, right after I write about it on my livejournal.

Jak, get a sense of humor.

But insulting one of pop music's greatest triumphs by comparing it to some insignificant band is something that should never be done again.

A post this wrought with irony should be saved for posterity.

Honestly, I heard one of their songs on the radio and thought I was listening to Vertical Horizon.

awesome.

i don't get why indie rock bands who fail to impress 50 kids at a in-store pre-new slang think they can play big theatres and shit.

This has sort of become a forum/real-life cliche, but learn what irony means. ;)
The definitions of words evolve through common usage; language is fluid whether you wish it to be not; unfortunatley for sticklers, the word irony has taken on multiple meanings beyond it's original definition. In other words, I don't feel the slightest hesitation in using it in the form I did. Perhaps you should examine the intended meaning of my post rather than try to shift the arguement into one of semantics, which is clearly an attempt on your part to deviate from the issue at hand--the ironic nature of your post, or if you prefer it stated this way, how ridiculous it is for you to accuse me of lacking a sense of humor when in the same post you not only ignore the blantant sarcasm of my post, but equate a mere comparison of two albums to desecration. Not to meantion that any harm I could do to the legacy of Pet Sounds has been done far better by Brian Wilson himself in his later years. So uhh, whatever dude.

You know I didn't read that.

Saw them a about a week ago. They did a pretty good job. Did James do that bagel thing?

Also loved the Brunettes (Who opened) as well. Having trouble finding their albums though. :(

k, but you're the bottom. And i don't shower, so you may want to hold your breath.
On second thought, if you're expecting it to be good you may not want to hold your breath after all.

--Anyway, I like the Shins. Aren't they awesome guys?

Oh, and for the record, I'm a total music elitist and I've been into totally obscure IDM and Morr-esque underground for ages, but I don't care how popular the shins are getting--the melodies are superb and their songs make me feel like kicking it. I don't give a shit about awkward Garden State scenes, they are a good time in concert. Quit hatin'.

I would agree. I really liked Caring is Creepy and picked up a couple of their albums and at first was like "this is ordinary", but over time the record got better and better for me. I really love The Shins now, but they don't knock you off your feet with every song.

THE SHINS ARE AWESOME. I'm sorry, but comparing them to Vertical Horizon makes you look like a total fool. Not every band has to sound like SFA.

I can't wait to see them live next month. My favorite songs- Saint Simon, New Slang, Know Your Onion!, Caring is Creepy, Young Pilgrims, Kissing the Lipless, Gone For Good, etc., etc. Hopefully they'll play more new stuff as well.

Okay. I won't talk about them until the new album releases/leaks.

I don't think I've recently mentioned SFA in any threads unrelated to the band, though.

I'm seeing them in a few weeks, should be a fun time.

I'm intrigued by the Brunettes..... maybe I'll have to show up decently early and catch them :) The stuff on their website sounds fun enough.

Trail of Dead tomorrow.... they better not suck wang.

Yeah, so I looked over my posts, and I don't really see myself posting about SFA unless it's in an SFA-related thread.

Had I gone into this thread and said, "God, SFA is a way better band than the Shins," then yeah, you'd have a point. But I think you're just trying to make me upset for some reason.

You're welcome to visit the Audioscrobbler link I posted if you don't believe I enjoy other music.

And I changed my avatar to some random guy from British Sea Power, just for you.
