the amount of money they were asking for upfront. it was a lot. more then some games entire budgets.why was it crazy
krypt0nian said:Hey I'm all for that too!
Amir0x said:I can just imagine the sort of evocative noir worlds next-gen technology can bring. Shadows dipping the old steam-filled alleyway into suspicion. The neon lights of the coffee shop flicker upon the damp, cobblestone streets. Every damsel peaking innocently from under their dark veils, whispering to themselves about the crime that just took place. A body. No sign of force. Nothing missing, except a file pertaining to an unknown man. You're a detective, it's your job to solve this crime. But the entire city is suspect, oppressive... and someone doesn't want you to find out the truth.

krypt0nian said:You got my nipples hard with that description. Now if they can only keep it straight, with no hiunts of fantasy. There is that feeling that it won't be mainstream enough without it getting wierd at some point.

Vince said:I don't think you have to worry about it dipping into the fantasy realm. My impression is that it's more akin to the The Getaway in it's dark, crime feel, but that this time the amount of killing will be realistic (eg. No Rambo in the streets of LA).
The scale of the game seems impressive, they were looking in 2004 for an AI programmer who would work on "simulating 200+ real-world agents for a real time, single player, story-focused game."

the last thing I want to play right now is a detective game in modern times with a fucking bling-bling gangsta as my 'contact'.
When you become independent, you might as well listen to what others have to say. Perhaps someone could have made a better offer. I actually think the high advance was more to scare tactic to find out who was really serious about working with Team Bondi. Why do I have a difficult time believing that McNamara was shopping for a publisher? AFAIK, the understanding between McNamara and SCE was that after The Getaway, he was returning to the land down under. They've been targeting the PlayStation3 since they left SCEE and it was a forgone conclusion by early 2004; AFAIK they were among some of the first to get PS3 specifications from SCEI.
40's or 50's, if my memory serves me correctly.I hope it's like 1930's LA...
Amir0x said:God, yes.
I don't care if it's "free roaming", in that you gotta drive around the city to follow up on leads. But please, I don't want to be killing pedestrians on my way to speak with poor ol' Grandma Betler. After murder number 5, I shouldn't be able to continue my job as detective!

IBTN. The Getaway had some amazing presentation/direction, and some cool ideas. I'm looking forward to this.Amir0x said:Man, a noir-ish crime thriller using next-gen technology would be AWESOME.
