On page 2 of the Sly 2 instructions they show a schematic of the normal PS2 and under it state the following:

"Illustration may not match all PlayStation 2 console types. For owners of SPCH-70000 series PlayStation 2 systems, refer to the setup instructions supplied with your system."

What the hell is a SPCH-70000 PS2 system? Could it be the rumored PSTwo? The current PS2 model # is 50001, isn't it?

a US model number would have to SCPH 70001 anyway. US model numbers end in 1, the japanese ones in zero.

the original playstation was SCPH 1000 (and up, but always in the 1000s range of digits), but the PSone was SCPH 100.

then a gain, they can't take it down a notch this time and make PStwo SCPH 1000. OMG WTF BBQ MODELNUMBER-POCALYSE

and the plot thickens...

Sony Computer Entertainment holding strategy conference Tuesday

The tech giant's game arm will announce plans for the second half of its fiscal year early next week.

TOKYO--Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that it will hold a strategy conference in Japan next Tuesday, just days before the Tokyo Game Show. While the conference will outline SCE's plans for the second half of the fiscal year ending March 2005, details on exactly what will be discussed are still under wraps.

According to Bloomberg Japan, SCE president Ken Kutaragi will be at the meeting. The conference will likely result in some new announcements, possibly even details on the PSP's release date and price. It's also suspected that the strategy meeting may spur the announcement of a redesigned version of the PlayStation 2, which has been widely rumored to be in production.

Has anyone seen the new PS2 DVD remote? It mentions a specific PS2 model number. I think it might be this one. As far as the DVD remote shows on the box that this new ps2 just has an IR receiver built into the system. I could be wrong though....

Nope, that's the SCPH-50001 model. It has built-in IR, progressive scan dvd player, and allows for better support of CDR/RW DVD/R/RW/+/- media.

Awesome, thanks!

Now... can anyone tell me what's so special/unique about each one? :)

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
Why is there so much speculation? The very first thought I had when entering this thread was that the model number was for the newly designed PS2.

What do you think it'll look like?
