I saw it at the cinema. Kevin William tried his best as a director, and did OK. But man, he lacks the physiological 'mind game' directors style of Wes Craven. I liked the movie well enough. But it was borderline predictable (I did call at least one of the killers...) but there was still some misdirection going on with the plot. I am still unsure of the final 'who dun it?' killer motives at the end. I feel like the movie was going to do something complexly different with the killer, but things changed during the filming process. I don't want to go into any spoilers here.
Also, I will say this, I honestly liked the soundtrack, as it was nice to hear Marco Beltrami come back to the franchise that practically made him a famous composer to begin with.
My favorite movies in the franchise are still Scream 1, and 2 (in that order), Scream 3 was sadly a bit of a mess as there were a lot of we-writes while filming. I honestly enjoyed Scream 4 far more than three, but I haven't honestly seen that movie in over a decade. I think this is overall better than Scream 3 in many ways. This one honestly feels more like a direct sequel to Scream 4 and somewhat side skirts around Scream 5 and Scream 6, outside of two returning characters from 5 and 6.
The dialogue does feel like classic Scream in so many ways, as it was written mostly by Kevin Williamson,You can really hear the dialogue beats. Kinda neat to see Neve Cambel back. She was great as Sydney. There are also some interesting cast cameos. Yes Matthew Lilard is back... which is not a spoiler. His performance as Stu is great. I also don't want to get in any spoilers on his involvement with the plot.
