Screw Silicon Knights: US Army gets Unreal Engine3 too!!

Holy $hit! How much money are they making with their engine? Microsoft, Obsidian, Silikon Knights, US Army, Bioware. They all licensed this engine for the next generation of games. IIRC I read that the Doom 3 Engine was 6mln $. The Unreal 3 Engine won't be cheaper than that.

First time I've fixed a post. Don't get mad! :(

From what I've read, Unreal Engine 3 is much more powerful and much more flexible than the Doom 3 engine.

Look at Prey and Quake 4. Seem like Doom 3 clones.

Well, the Unreal technology has been well recognized in the development community for some time now. It's only logical that developers would want to have the latest tech, especially considering what a huge impression it has made so far with those screens.

Of course, the fact that Id hasn't had the experience in being a "middleware" provider that Epic has been also makes the difference.

No problem with that, but maybe you misunderstood me. I didn't want to compare Doom 3 and Unreal 3 on a tecnical standpoint. It shoud be obvious to everyone that Doom 3 doesn't stand a chance.

I just wanted to point out, that Epic is making tons of money selling their engine and that I don't think they are selling it for less then what ID asks for their D3-Engine.
