The Secret Service has vacated its command post inside Trump Tower in Manhattan following a dispute between the government and President Trump’s company over the terms of a lease for the space, according to two people familiar with the discussions.

Previously, the Secret Service had stationed its command post — which houses supervisors and backup agents on standby in case of an emergency — in a Trump Tower unit one floor below the president’s apartment.

But in early July, the post was relocated to a trailer on the sidewalk, more than 50 floors below, a distance that some security experts worry could hamper the agency that protects the president’s home and family.

The command post appears unlikely to move anytime soon back inside Trump Tower, where the president and his family have rarely gone since moving to the White House.

On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Trump Organization said the government should seek space in another location.

Got a perfectly good building for them to stay in already. The expansion of security they took for three separate highly trafficked locations is stupid.

Funny that the one building that he actually has the most ownership over with his name on it, and he can't work a deal with the gov't that he supposed heads to do their jobs effectively.
If he were there at all and not just his wife and kid, I bet he would have worked it out. All about those slum lord dollars.

There was news that the government was getting stiffed with a rental contract that was several times even record market rent.

Perhaps the news and bad press shamed some functionary to actually look at the contract and realise it was gouging.

No. That is how Trump is exploiting things in the end. Everything he does is on purpose of making money. All his vacations to his resorts. Secret service pays for their rooms etc. Secret Service in first 3 months had already paid over $35,000 in golf cart rental fees just so they can follow trump on the courses.

That Snopes story does say the Secret Service paid rent, and it looks to work out in the same way it did with Biden. Biden charged the Secret Service to rent a cottage at one of his properties, but it was apparently the same price the previous tenants paid. Trump probably keep jacking up the price.
