sega beating EA finally?

With all the release news that come lately from sega, do you think they are able to made their prediction to beat EA in (sorry forgot the exact quotes) years?

Sure their is some douptfull game like shadow the hedgehog, but most seem solid line up and very little if no shovelware.

They release more old franchise than ever, they still pump inovative game, and they started, at least in japan to produce the usual EA stuff, licenced propriety but in a good way.

now with all the partnership with western developer, i really think they can make it. Not that i'm THAT interested in american game, but they are better to me than EA, activision, take two and thq offering. And even in those there is some that interest me, like spartan total warrior.

They also seem to be THE PSP and DS best developer from now on, really nice game, one could have those console and buy only sega game and be happy on them.

Of course all this depend on how the game turn on, but i have faith to see a good 50% of sega game to be good again. What is especially good seem to be the fact that they have a good lead on next gen with their arcade lineup.

The stock took a big hit lately from not being added to Nikkei consumer product index, but if they can turn the home game unit around they can literaly increase profit by 100% for 2006. I see the stock go as low as 13$US (for the ADR) and goes back up to 22$ around next june. Meanwhile i see EA stock to go nowere, and even go a bit lower as cost of development go higher and the number of japanese developer signing small western developer usually with EA go higher.

SEGA...................................EA

I'm not sure what the PSP's Sega line up is, but DS? No.

Just...no.

...

Lord no.

Yes, I think they can if they start making better business decisions. But they'll have to spend like EA in-order to be as succesful as them, marketing is key. I personally can't wait for PSU, VF5, Sonic Next-gen, Sonic DS, Monkey Ball DS, Virtua Tennis(next-gen) and Ryu Ga Gotoku...

next gen sonic better be a hell of a lot better than Sonic Heroes, but I dont think they will be as sucessful as EA for a long time.

I think Sega will probably outperform EA in less than 12 months. I expect them to sell more units, and for the company value to far exceed EA's by this time next year. Certainly Sega's stock price will beat EA's within three months. It's not a matter of "if" Sega will become a bigger, more profitable company than EA, but rather, can they do it in less than six months.

Oh man. Hahahahahahaha.

where the fuck is all of this comming from?!

Come on, i understand wanting to preserve the image of sega back in DC days but face it, that developer is an embarassment. And im making these comments not even comparing them to EA, the most successful developer at this moment

in 12 months I see Acclaim out performing Sega

Ha, I like your av Wind Steaker. Anyways...this is a borderline retarded thread. Who cares about the business crap, give me the games. Been saying all along that Sega has been saving up to reemerge as a big time player in the industry again. The games will be good, but can they sell them?

Sega would need a few huge blockbusters to even compete with EA, blockbusters that are so far unseen, only solid prospects so far. Then Sega would have to start playing dirty, making sure those reviews stay high in the mainstream gaming media, like EA, for instance. Having a perception of never releasing bad games makes selling the games a lot easier.

First they would have to beat Take-Two, Ubisoft, Atari, Konami, Square-Enix, Capcom, Nam........, ..... ,.....

In other words: HELL NO

This thread is worthless without a upcoming release list:

boy, i remember when sega claimed they'd trump ea as the biggest games publisher. and i remember that i found it plausible. i must have had a terrible case of the stupid.

Funny enough, Sega's top releases have always outperformed EA's on Nintendo platforms. :)

Too bad Nintendo's platforms have been outperformed by Sony and Microsoft's.

Otherwise, Sega'd have a shot at outperforming EA.

"Nintendo platforms" means Game Boy too btw. Though I do think EA's done slightly better on DS so far, Sonic Rush & Monkey Ball DS should change that. :)

I wouldn't want my retirement to hinge on a Sega investment. They have some solid assets, so as a cheap buy you dump off after making a quick buck it might be good. I doubt they will keep it together, although I'd love to see them come up a few notches, since I've been a long time fan. Certainly their line up is looking better than what they had going the past few years. EA, as boring as they are, will probably stay in control of things. They might not grow as fast in the future, but the earnings are there. I'm not really a fan of EA, and I dislike how they do business, but they have a buffer where they can be making a few mistakes and still do great business.

Not in a million years...

If you look at the lineup from SEGA now, compare it with the lineup that they had for the Dreamcast back a few years... IIRC it was considerably better by far compare to now.

Beating EA in terms of what? Sales?

Not gonna happen. Sega would have to stop making original games altogether, snag up the most popular licences, and get exclusive contracts on the most popular major sports. Sega could release 20 AAA titles in a row, be on the cover of EGM 6 times a year, hold crummy MTV specials, etc, etc, and they still wouldn't come close to beating EA. EA makes money because they appeal to the broadest audience. The only people who play Sega's games are mainly hardcore types and those who remember them fondly from their glory days. Pretty much everybody plays EA's games. Well, except for many of those in the former camp such as myself.

Sega Sammy have nowhere to go but up. They're very profitable from their amusement (arcade, pachinko, pachislot) business and have a lot of unrealized potential in their consumer sector, which is finally starting to stabilize from unprofitability. Their former Sega Sports division also devastated the profits of their major competitor before being sold off.

Sega's going to start out strong next gen it seems. I really could care less if they beat EA, but I want them to be profitable. For us Sega fans it's looking good right now and awesome thread, it shows that the heart of Sega fanS is alive and kicking, always looking to lay waste to industry giants, although no one has been kicked around as much as us.
