SEGA Europe have announced they are opening new officers in Germany, Munich, placing Markus Wiedemann as General Manager of PR and marketing. Widemann previously worked as General Manger of Codemasters Germany and he will head SEGA’s attempt to appeal to Western gamers, particularly in Europe.

"Markus is an enormously experienced and respected individual. In the coming months, he will build up a reliable team, focusing specifically on marketing and PR to implement our extensive plans for the German 'speaking' market," Mike Hayes, President and CEO of SEGA Europe said. "Opening the SEGA Germany office was merely a question of time, it is a logical step in our growth strategy and I am delighted to welcome Markus to the SEGA team."

"SEGA's strength of brand and reputation in the industry can hardly be equalled by any of its competitors. It is a fascinating and unique challenge to help SEGA regain the recognition and market share in Germany that it deserves", Markus Wiedemann stated."Together with the strong European branch and a rapidly growing German team, we will make SEGA of Germany one of the major players in the local market".

ACHTUNG!

Sega of Europe is probably the only sane branch of Sega, aside Smilebit and their string of awesome games this gen.

Seconded, SoE seem to have their heads screwed on. It's that lot that have picked up Worms, Football Manager & the Total War brands. Those aren't the actions of the usual bone headed Sega we've come to know and love.

Love is different, we're not blind ;)

Though, this is good news. If only they could've done it sooner and brought Gungrave O.D. over here themselves... It would receive a lot more marketing than the budgettitle it is right now.

Also, this sets the the market open for PSU, which is incredibly awesome from what I heard and read and saw... :D

I would like to be the first to congratulate Sega Europe on staffing up with defunct Codemasters no-marks. Hopefully they'll all steal some money and leave like the no-marks hired from Acclaim.

Sometimes, I really do wonder...

I never thought Sega would ever become what they are today. Goddamn, I think I just got some of that Shout spray in my mouth. Ugh.

This is an April fools joke right? ... RIGHT????

Why would it be? I'd be willing to bet that today is the start of Sega Europe's fiscal year, and it's not like Sega Germany would be so ridiculous.

he he he - today codemasters germany announced, that they giving all the press work to a real marketing agency. :lol

Take a company with the managerial composure of SEGA, mix it with a country with the horrific historical background that Germany has... this is not a good idea.

Sega has made some awesome games in the past 5 years, but honestly, they continue to make poor business decisions that will only make things worse than they already are in the long run.

That being said, I wish Sega never got this bad, in terms of both money and popularity...
