Sega Rally 1 Soundtrack appreciation thread

force push the doodoo rock
Thanks to SSF, I have been able to get reaquainted with my favorite racing game of all time sega rally. Half of why this game is so good is cause the soundtrack is so totally rockin. A staple of mizuguchi games is the soundtrack and it all started here. It may be cheesy to some, but you can't deny how awesome and catchy it is. When the guitar parts kick in during the replay and you synchronize your drift, its jus so awesome. It doesn't just give you the feeling of driving fast, youre driving COOL. SR1 doesnt need a kudos system! Cause when you see yourself whip around the corners, you know youre bad.

Did an official soundtrack ever come out for this game? I've just been listening to redbook audio for the past day.

Yeah, the soundtrack is awesome!! One of the best racing soundtracks ever in all its rocking cheesiness. I'm talking about the Saturn soundtrack though. I tried the version included with Sega Rally 2006, and the music was just so much worse. :(

I remember using the different parts of each song to measure how I was doing on each lap. Forget all the specifics now, but basically if I was making a certain turn before, say, a guitar bit started, I knew I was on track for a good time :)

Yeah the saturn version is much more rockin.

It funny, I just rehooked my Saturn and popped in SR a couple of days ago. The music is indeed cool, and the voices during the game just put it over the top. I was surprised that despite the aged looks, the game still plays great and is a lot of fun still.

i listen to 'Conditioned Reflex' a lot when riding down mountains on my bike.

keyboards on this soundtrack are fuckin awesome.

what other soundtracks did Takenobu Mitsuyoshi work on?

Did Yoji Biomehanika have a track in Sega Rally 1 or 2? I really need to play these games... not into racing games much but damn do I enjoy Mizuguchi's games.

I think thats the gayest paragraph I've ever written in my life.

:lol

The track that played for the mountain course (the first music track on the Saturn disc) was simply phenominal. Think it was called Desert Land...can't remember. Some of the other tunes were pretty cool as well...Lakeside was awesome, as was a couple of the replay tunes. And of course the demo tune is a staple. But Desert Land was just genius.

With the Sega Rally games I'd always time how I did in my time runs with where the music was at a certain point. It wasn't unusual for me to restart 30 or 40 times in the attempts to get a "perfect run".

I thought Sega Rally 2 had some great tunes as well...desert, mountain, snowy, Riveria, the replay tune and the ending credits are all great to listen to in that classic "cheesey ass Sega" style.

For my money though, the best Sega racing soundtracks though belong to the original OutRun (it's a classic), Sega Touring Car and Super GT/Scud Race.

I thought Takayuki Nakamura did VF1. I'm sure Mitsuyoshi did however do some image albums for VF1. Either way, I love Takenobu Mitsuyoshi's work, and the soundtrack on Sega Rally for Saturn is definitely one of my favorite game soundtracks ever. The replay music is the best! All of it is good though. When the game first came out, I wrote down what I heard as the lyrics for the vocal song (track 12, if I remember correctly). I'm sure I was wrong on most of the words. If you'd like, I'll post it when I get home.

Also, the guy t hat sings GAME OVER YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH is takenobu mitsuyoshi. Rumor has it a Gaffer has actually done karaoke with him before and i am very jealous of that gaffer.

Totally agree! Whilst i'm sure an attempt at describing the sound in DUM-DA-DUM's would fail miserably.. my favourite bit is on the mountain course, usually on the third lap it has a fantastic buildup bit. Really get's you into the racing

Yeah I ripped it to my Xbox (had to put Saturn disc into the PC, rip the tracks and burn a seperate disc and pop that in my Xbox) and on my PC (for the 360)...it's awesome with any racing game.

It really fit well with Rallisport Challange.

Smartest man of the thread, yes.

The replay tunes are simply amazing, and blow away the other songs in the game (though those songs are great too). I've been listening to those replay tunes for damn near a decade. My fave Sega soundtrack.

I too love the soundtrack. It was the first game soundtrack that I thought was good enough to play for friends and which got a "ummm.... but it's video game music" response.

I ripped the SR sound track to my XBox for racing games. My RSC2 sessions always began with SR tracks. :D

I have to remember to rip the game CD to my PC so I can he songs when I play PGR3. :)

My text written in 1998. Have not checked for spelling errors and the like:

I have, for those of you who feel an undying urge to sing while listening
to it, compiled this set of lyrics. These aren't, to my knowledge, the actual
lyrics, but are phonetically correct. Enjoy.

Sega Rally Track 12 song

Running, blazing heart pumps
Sideways is a view, season fits the mood

Running, send in the storm
Wild blood deep in you, keeps trying to see you through

We're burning mad,
You see beyond, you know what's there

Feel the heartbeat of the light
Do you feel the heartbeat of the line
Do you feel the heartbeat of the ride
Do you feel the heartbeat of the line

(Scatting)

Running, raise through the hand
Now seems to so afraid that Guy* will be there
Running, victory in sight
All senses becoming one, fishing you beneath the sun

I'll move that Baja
Come, food is yours, your mission's solved

Feel the heartbeat of the light
Do you feel the heartbeat of the line
Do you feel the heartbeat of the ride
Do you feel the heartbeat of the line

(scatting) No way!

Yeah, I'll move that Baja
Come, food is yours, your mission's solved

(Repeat chorus)
Oh can't you feel it? (Chorus repeated again)
Do you feel the heartbeat of the line?
On the phone
On the phone
On your phone

Can't you feel it
I want to feel it. Oooh
(feel it)
(slight scatting)
(feel it)
Aaaaaaoooooooh!
(feel it)
(feel it)
(feel it)
(feel it)
(feel it)
(can you feel it)

fade out
