Semi-offical Nintendo Conference aka Reggie-Fest thread

Two down, one to go. Will Nintendo surprise or stumble? Beat the MS but fall to the PS3 in specs? Did Reggie slap you silly? Post away.

I'm expecting to be pleasantly surprised. Not blown away by anything, but I'm sure Nintendo has stuff that's going to put a smile on a lot of our faces.

Gonna be hard to top the PS3 unveiling though.

I really hope Nintendo keeps doing what they've been doing. More "classic" Nintendo type games on the Rev, DS and GBA. While both the 360 and PS3 are impressive, we don't need another console fighting over that same "media hub" bone. An approach like this will probably guarantee them 3rd place again, but what do I care? I don't work for them nor own their stock. I want something different from what the 360 and PS3 are going to provide.

nintendo will have to show a lot tommorow or be ridiculed in the press. ms and sony totally unloaded all their info so nintendo needs to show everything they have, otherwise the buzz will be monopolized by ps3 and xbox 360 until the next big event and by then it will be harder for nintendo to get their foot in the door.

i expect nintendo to try to equal sony in terms of the amount they show... i think they'll show the console, a bunch of trailers and if they have it, they might even show something in-game (maybe mario). i think there is a chance that internal nintendo development might be pretty far along on some of their next gen games. I do fear that the system will be weaker than the other two in terms of specs though, because of the reported size, but if the revolutionary gimmic is really really cool, they might be able to get away with it. if thats the case, they should go ahead and spill the beans.

edit// i think the really important thing is for nintendo to beat microsoft...

I don't think they can top PS3's showing. I'm hoping they match it though.

Currently I'm more excited about the next zelda then revolution.

Having just seen the Sony conference, I think Nintendo's going to have a hell of a time trying to top them, though they could show a Mario shaped dog turd and it would still beat Microsoft's show.

Nintendo needs to give us a reason to care and in their current position it can't be just about the hardware for them. If they just come out with some cool hardware, they might as well pack up and start waiting in the star wars line early. For them to get people to care - really really care, they have to be on the ball and show hardware, software, developer support, and VISION. If they can't show all of that, they will fall into the 'noise of E3' and no one will (really) care what they have to say.

Nintendo are lucky to go third. If they have a revolution demo ready yet they feel its not up to the PS3, they dont have to show it. Keep the full coming out till 2006, i expect they will.

an abbreviated version of what i said earlier in a what will reggie say thread:

reggie + hermit beard + barefoot + nasty toenails + pajamas + captain hat + pea coat + calabash pipe + furtive furrowed brow + soothing chewbacca cooing + pointing at screen + wolf suit miyamoto = solemnly removing reggie from stage*

is the only way for a nintendo win no matter what is on the screen

*possibly to be "put down"

Nintendo always spread their conference time between the different platforms and I'm sure they will focus a lot of time on Zelda, leaving a spot open for a sneak preview of the revolution perhaps. Whatever they show they (sadly) must do what MS did and take in some EA people to talk about support etc., but I don't think that's their thing.
