Nothing much this month except now the top 10 is dominated by GC games. HotD III and SoAL have both been selling really well lately. NFL 2K3 has also been selling a lot due to a price drop to $7 or so.

Headhunter and Blood Will Tell did poorly, and the best selling new release this month was Phantasy Star Episode I & II Plus.

GO PUYO POP, GO!

I'm also shocked at all the people who bought Sonic Heroes. They all need to be punched in the face.

I think this post should be footnoted with the ESPN games from this year, even though Sega isn't publishing them. It makes me feel better about them knowing that this year's ESPN games just chopped about $2 off EA's stock price.... :)

Running off of Custom Firmware
Which leads to the inevitable question. Why the FUCK did I buy PSO I&II Plus if I never intended to play it again? (Me still owns PSO I&II classic)

You're more than welcome to start posting them yourself, as well as any other Sega games published by someone else.

Damn, I see why Sega's porting Sonic Mega Collection and Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2. Besides Virtua Fighter, those are pretty much the only games they have (besides the other Sonic titles).

Sega can't seem to make anything stick at the moment (besides Sonic Heroes). Okay there early forays into third party publishing weren't overly successful but they were mega-platinum best sellers compared to how well their stuffs done this year. BWT & HHR sales are abysmal and PSPlus isn't much better.

where's the Nintendo GCN LTD thread, AniHawk?

It's always in the thread where bunkum posts the numbers.

Hey Ani, did you add the GC bundles (SMB1+2, SonicMC+SonicA2B & SonicMC+SonicDX) to each game's total?

Yes. And don't get on my case about it, either. I did the same thing when the JSRF/Sega GT 2002 disc was being sold as a single game.

I won't, they're the same games after all (unlike VF4 & VF4E). :p

Sega's selling these GC games in bundles now for $29.99. So far it's...

-Super Monkey Ball + Super Monkey Ball 2
-Sonic Adventure 2 Battle + Sonic Mega Collection
-Sonic Adventure DX + Sonic Mega Collection

Yeah, because it'd just be impossible for you to do it. Just add them and stop crying.

Holy crap I'm out of the loop. When did this start? I just checked Gamestop.com and EBGames and didn't find anything. Are these in-store only?

I think it's only Toys 'R Us, but NPD doesn't cover TRU, so I don't know, maybe there's some stores out there doing it but it's not widespread...

:lol

There are a TON of them for the GBA alone. Subitai includes PSO and Shenmue II's in his MS updates, and I do F-Zero GX in the Nintendo updates.

Ani (or anyone for that matter) you should send the GC numbers to Sega and tell them their fucking retarded for not supporting the cube more.

Well since July the GC's been getting a game a month. Exclusives too. Puyo Pop, Amazing Island, and PSO Plus.

And on top of that, there are some bundles being sent out for $30, apparently. It's not like Sega's abandoned the system completely.

All of which didn't do too well. =/

Sega needs to hurry up and open up Pandora's Box with Sonic Heroes Player's Choice this winter.

crap, crap, crap... wait, that last one's good...

(in terms of visibility and importance they are crap I mean...)

Besides, Sega is Sammy's slave now, and they have their own agenda... they develop for PS2 and XBox only even though the GCN is doing modestly decent in Japan...

Well the latest releases on the PS2 and Xbox haven't done very well either (Astro Boy, Headhunter Redemption, and Blood Will Tell). I bet Outrun 2 will actually do well on the Xbox though.

Hey Ani, where are you getting your numbers? I've been trying to find Square Enix's LTD numbers (wanna see how FFCC stacked up to its PS2 competition).

From Bunkum in his NPD threads he posts each month. I don't remember where I got the LTDs from though.

And what do you consider the PS2 "competition?" FFX-2? FFX? FFXI? KH?

And they haven't exactly set the world alight. Frankly it seems that if it ain't Sonic or SMB then GC isn't that receptive to it.

I think it goes to a much larger problem within Sega and that is that so much of the stuff they've been producing has been half-arsed and if it said Midway or THQ on the box people probably wouldn't turn a eye to (I mean on this board, sales wise would probably be the same thing). Honestly if Amazing Island wasn't Sega you wouldn't have found even the paltry interest in it that there was.

I think Sega have gone into that vicious cycle that seems to hit publishers with financial difficulties. They start cutting budgets on games in the hope that they can spend a pittance on lots of small games and build up on lower sales, but it never works. The games don't have the production values or marketing budgets to garner interest they flop unbelievably and end up sinking the company further into debt.

Sega need to stop making crappy small games like Amazing Island and Nightshade and focus on putting a lot of effort into a select few titles to give them the production values and marketing needed to break through onto a wider stage.

Naw, more like the smaller-tier stuff (U:Saga, Drakengard, Front Mission). Wondering how FFTA and Sword of Mana did too.

Sega and Nintendo GC numbers are AniHawk's specialty.

If someone provided me NPD data from June 2003 forward for Capcom titles, count me in on that front.

Other people have done and some still do various LTD round ups for different companies but only Anihawk's Sega one seems to have any staying power. I think it's a nice monthly chance for Sega fans to vent their frustration with a bit of browbeating and hair tearing and play mini-CEO, which with any other company is normally people talking out there arse, but with Sega, hell pretty much anyone over the age of 7 could be doing a better job than they are now.

Meier covers those GBA games since Nintendo published them. Drakengard didn't break 150k to my knowledge, and Unlimited Saga broke 200k.

Actually, I think Unlimited Saga did less than 50K, but I'm not 100% positive.

Meier does Nintendo GBA, I do Nintendo GC, Subitai does Xbox numbers, I do Sega for all systems except the GBA. Only Meier's and my Sega ones have monthly updates. Sonycowboy's begun with updating this gen's bestsellers every month now as well (which are pretty popular).

I wonder if those bundles come in one two disc case or are just two cases shrinkwrapped next to each other.

I remember seeing Outlaw Golf and some other game from Eidos using that packaging format.

Can anyone tally up the sales for Sega's GBA games in the US, including the ones that were released (cough, butchered) by THQ?

John: Jarrod has totals from April 2004. I don't think Bunkum really responds to his topics anymore which makes it a little hard.
