Serial Experiments Lain - a few questions about the DVDs

I saw a few episodes of this series quite a while back and I loved the look and feel of it. I'm thinking about getting the DVDs, since there are only four of them, but I do have a few questions.

First off, does the series actually come to a satisfying end? Often times with a series that has this much ambition and such new ideas, the story can crumble because of that same ambition and those same new ideas.

Secondly, I'm currently looking at two versions of the DVDs. One is part of something called the Geneon Signature Series, found here:

And the other is the original release, found here:

The Geneon Signature Series version is much cheaper, so I'm wondering if there is any difference in the actual content of the DVDs. Help?

I don't believe there's any difference. The series does have a definite ending, I found it to be rather satisfying at the time. Of course, it was several years later before I went back to rewatch the series and catch all the bits I missed.

Only difference is the big red stripe/disc. Among the best animes ever created... enjoy!

By the way, there is a boxed release available as well if you're into that kind of thing. Comes with a neat blue slipcover too:

I saw that boxset on a couple of sites. My only problem with it is the price; most places have it for over $100, which is something I can't afford right now on top of all the other things I've bought recently. Especially not when I'm still going to buy the final 3 Cowboy Bebop DVDs. :)
