I should probably be asking this in a HW forum but maybe one of you will have some insight. I'm building a new pc around an Asus K8V and an A64 3000+, waiting on my last UPS shipment today actually.

Anyway I read on the amdmb forums that you *need* CL2.5 or better ram to even post on this mobo. This just can't be correct because the ram I ordered is on Kingston's recommened list for this board and is also on Asus's own verification list. The module is KVR400X64C3A/512 and is CL3. Why would Asus list it if you can't even boot with it? I've seen other people running that module in their K8Vs in their hardware sig so obviously if there is a boot prob it must be with chips not on the list you think?

I bought this board based on all the good reviews it got on major hw sites. I don't overclock I just want a solid board. My nforce2 rig got damaged in a storm, it still works and is stable but onboard LAN is dead and so are my PCI slots, I just needed an excuse to build a new rig.

I have a hard time believing you need a 2.5 latency to even post.

I have a hard time believing it too. According to the thread I read the BIOS on this board defaults to 2.5 so if you have CL3 memory it won't post, but according to the manual it defaults to auto. Guess I'll find out, I have some Kingston HyperX DDR333 in this machine. I ran it through Prime95's FFT test to check it out and it's stable CL2 memory.

I'm using generic ram (2x512mb) with my A64 3200+ and the memory timing is set to auto.

I have the MSI K8T NEO-FIS2R though.
