Serious Sam 4 - Gameplay Trailer

IbizaPocholo

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental's hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam "Serious" Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos.

Croteam returns with a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels. The classic Serious Sam formula is revamped by putting an unstoppable arsenal up against an unimaginable number of enemies that requires players to circle-strafe and backpedal-blast their way out of impossible situations.

Game looks a bit grey and flat in it's art direction. Still do love myself some serious sam and i hope they got on with remaking 2 someday.

"The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defense Force led by Sam "Serious" Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos. "

Wait, is this an EDF crossover?

Is this a doom spin off or something? Why are there mancubus and barons, the weapons look very similar too.

The "baron" (aka Khnum) was actually designed in partnership with ID as a tribute to Doom. So them looking similar makes sense.

As for the Scrapjack, yea they are a straight up ripoff of the Mancubus.

You dont know Serious Sam?. Its not really a DOOM spinoff, i dont know why those enemies are in the game lol. The game is more wave based. Huge levels with tons of enemies coming at you almost constantly.

It looks good... like x360 era game ;), but at least it will be fun for sure. I'm still replaying previous serious sam games from time to time.

honestly, that looks like trying to make having no art direction a preference

The Serious Sam games have never had good art direction and have always lived or died based on gameplay. Serious Sam is basically the shooter equivalent of Geometry Wars. People who like it, really like it (myself included).

PC and stadia august 2020. PS4/Xone sometimes in 2021 due to an "exclusive" deal with google.

No doubt it will have made financial sense for Devolver to take the money but I hate these deals, especially here - it isn't gonna do jack for Stadia, that's just a turd no one wants to go near, and it only harms the game's chance at being a popular success.

Looks like great fun though 2021 is PS5/XBSX territory surely? Not sure how that'll work, release on older consoles with BC?

Oh yeah, I'm extremely hyped for ss4. One of my fav franchises ever. First encounter and second encounter were amazing, third one was a bit flawed but this looks so amazing.
They're also my countrymen :messenger_grinning:

The ancient temples in first and second encounter were dope as fuck. This generic current era landscape is boring and generic af

I'm not sure why they've still only talked about the Legion System where "Serious Sam 4 unleashes some of the biggest moments in the series' history with the new Legion System and battlefields teeming with thousands of enemies!", maybe they've been saving it for a marketing surprise or something, but some video went up today that supposedly shows it:

(*Kind of goofy, really, like one of those cellphone gate-games or TAB Simulator in realtime, but maybe it'll be fun to encounter.)

This looks great. Exactly what I want from Serious Sam - I'm glad they're not trying anything really different. Sometimes it's just nice to mow down hundreds of enemies in big ass empty levels.
