I love my iBook to pieces but one thing I can't get to work is windows printing - that is, being able to send files to my printer downstairs, which is connected to my XP computer.

My iBook recognizes my windows network and finds my printer. I have it set up as my default printer under Windows Printing, but whenever I hit print nothing happens. It's my PC downstairs that does not recognize my Mac. :(

The printer is a lexmark 5200 all in one, and it's setup as a generic postscript printer on my iBook.

How do I get this to work?

I prefer gutenprint (the top link). This should allow you to print even on a network.

Also, for the mac to sucessfully print on a windows network, you have to set a password on the PC. I don't know why... I was having the same problems but after setting up a login password on my PC, everything worked fine for printing. When you go to access the windows network using the mac to set up the printer just put in the username/password of the PC and save it to your keychain.

What a nightmare :( I tried to get my room mate's windows laptop to hook up to my print attached to my G5...I gave up after about 2 hours. Apple and M$ both claim easier networking with their next OS's...We'll see in about a week.

Like I said above, I got it working.... I have also been able to add all of the printers at my school w/o a problem.

Make sure you have you PC system set up with a login password and then go through the mac add a printer (through network neighborhood) and you should be ok. \

And if gunten print doesn't work, use the other one...

My copy of XP is fucked; certain things show up as HTML source code for me. one of those things is the user account section. It's just a bunch of HTML, so I can't make myself have a password.
