Obvious pick, but is mandatory viewing for anyone with an interest in horror. John Carpenter is a true master of the genre and this a perfect introduction to his catalogue.

M.R James was one of Britain's finest short story authors, in my opinion and the BBC's 1960's adaptation of his short story "Oh, Whistle And I'll Come To To" is still worth a watch. The grainy b/w film and those haunting shots of deserted beaches still get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up.
Wonderful stuff, if you want to spend an hour watching a good, old fashioned spooky story.

Watch this one and not the remake with John Hurt, the Beeb did a few years back (it was rubbish) .

DTV Monster Hits

Disney Halloween special with a bunch of their footage cut to music videos (Before youtube trivialized this stuff) and some wrap around footage. Sadly all the streaming versions are poor quality.

The Midnight Hour (1985)

Forgotten Halloween themed ABC tv movie. Only saw it for the first time a couple years ago but it has something of an endearing quality. Catchy dance sequence too. =P
